Wilsons Prom, Vic.

We're planning a trip South, to include a few days or a week at Wilsons Prom.

Theres a campground at Tidal river in the NP, and one at Shallow Inlet. Has anyone stayed at either of those places, and which one would you recommend? I doubt there'll be any free camps anywhere nearby but thats to be expected so close to Melbourne.

There is a campground called Bear Gully - it is in the Camps 5 book I believe - beautiful spot.
Have stayed at Tidal River - heaps of room - not many powered sites from memory, and if the wind comes up - it is like a wind tunnel through there, so look for sheltered spot if possible - when are you going?

Don't just roll up at Tidal River as you may very well find it booked out.
Best to make a forward booking to avoid disappointment.
The Prom is a really magical place that I'm confident you'll enjoy.
While in the area I also suggest you spend a day or two in Victoria's best kept secret.
The Tarra Bulga National Park (Follow signs from Yarram) is fantastic for Tree Ferns, Mountain Ash, Lyre Birds and brightly coloured parrots etc.
I recommend the Tarra Valley Tourist Park 'Fernholme' just outside the park entrance.
Nice shady riverside sites and great Devonshire tea's in their Tea Rooms.
Check it out at www.ozparks.com.au
Enjoy you trip to Vic.
Cheers, ozjohn.

Went to Wilsons Prom a few years ago, stayed in a motel just outside the entrance. Accommodation of any sort is almost impossible without booking welll ahead.
Its a beautiful spot with lots of lovely walks.
When I was there campers were in every little nook and cranny, under a tree, in a sand drift, where ever they could find a spot. Its very popular.
Take your camera wombat.

The Tidal River campground is so popular that in school holidays they hold a ballot for places.

Which is why we are leaving it till late Feb/early March, hope we can get a booking ok then.

We recently found a couple of NP campgrounds to be pretty lacking in facilities (ie only a smelly toilet) and still charged $20 per night, so I thought I'd check about this one before we book.

Thank you everybody!

You definitely have to go to Tara Bulga!
My friends who live nearby, took me there for a bush walk, and I kept listening and looking over my shoulders for dinosaurs.
The forest feels so ancient and beautiful.
Wilson's Prom is fabulous on the ocean side and up the mountain look out. Spend the time and enjoy.
