Is that for . FIRE or THEFT..? We have a smoke alarm fitted and think it would be silly not to . but dont have one for theft.. just good insurance, smile...Bob

sorry guy's I meant burglar alarm. My auto electrician said I'd have to put a motion sensor in the back,because he can't wire it to the central locking.
The company rep from H.P.M. told me only yesterday that they are releasing a new range of security devices under the Nelson name early next year. I have the details of those alarms in front of me right now and some of them look just the ticket for RVs. The units are many and varied ...such features as remote, no wiring, vibration sensors, phone notification, stand alone external alarms and sensors, strobe lights,panic features, window/ doors...all sorts of gear and all DIY. They are yet to be released so there performance is not known yet but they certainly look good not only for the caravan but the annex as well.
Yes jimricho, It was 30 sec apart with the post.. Not to sure about movement sensores, have them in the disco and if a moth gets in during the day it sets the thing off anytime after dark.. NOT HAPPY JAN..... or anyone else thats within ear shot ..

Get a big dog bowl and a massive chain and collar to match and leave it outside the door while away .
I found the problem with vehicle and van alarms unless there is a flashing light visible to your fellow campers no one really knows where the trouble is located hence no one takes any notice .
I just use a simple movement senor alarm I got from Tricky Dickies (Dick Smith) with two remote controllers . I switch it on when when going sightseeing and at night when I hit the cot it's placed in the step well so if anyone enters the van while I sleep the 120 dB will get me all fired up to do combat.
Nothing is fool proof, that's why we take out insurance policies for such events . In the space of no more than 5 nano seconds I lost a mobile and charger along with a kids purse from my annex while I was in the van and the dog was sleeping on the door step at South West Rocks.
My set up was about $39.00 and you can also buy an external siren for around $20.00 extra

I assume you are talking about smoke alarms because of the new laws in NSW. I just travelled through NSW on the way to Victoria and did the Bunnings thing. Basically there are two main types of alarm,photosensitive and ionisation types. Bunnings sell one that is both in one unit.Bought the dual type.
I am advised that one is very good for smoke and the other is better for heat. So an all in one seems to be logical.I decided that the combined unit delivered both in one unit. Around $50 ,but what is your life worth. Regards.
