PLASTIC BAGS

so they should happywanderer,
but a lot of people dont care and and are dirty (to put it bluntly).
to put your hand out and have to take their bags  makes you feel quite ill.

I had never thought of that happening with those bags - but most of us just don't realise how the other side live - so to the persons coming to the counter with bags like that would never consider that they are dirty - so saying they shouldn't use them would make no sense to them.
After managing a 4 star caravan park and seeing what people leave or do in the amentities or the cabins - just makes you sick at times so nothing surprises me now - there are very dirty people everywhere and you can not always tell from appearances - some of the worst were in the top cabins.
Yes I shop at Target and yes I buy the bag - do I like being slugged for the bag - NO - now I will always be looking at those reuseable bags in a different light.

If you gp to the $2 shop you can buy a large nylon bag with carry handles that folds up tp about a 50mm square, put it in your personal hand bag & you always have a bag on hand. L always has a couple on hand.

Wow! I go out for a few hours and there's 28 comments when I get home!

A/ The plastic bags you pay 10 cents for at Target are biodegradeable.

B/ Yes, any bag under the size of a loaf of bread is off limits.

C/ I too carry 2 folding bags in my handbag for general shopping. Green bags and cold bags are for groceries and kept in the boot until needed.

As for germy bags..they're probably no germier than the trolley handles. Roach infested bags excepted. eyepopping.gif  fear.gif

I certainly do! I started working on checkouts in 1969 and we used paper bags. AND we had packers! We didn't have to do both! laughing.gif

Another thing...you CAN refuse to show your bag, but you WILL be remembered and watched every time you go into that shop again.

Over my 12 years with Target I worked in many different areas, including security, refunds and as the door greeter...the most boring job on earth! yawn

may as well add my bit as everyone else has....... many plastic bags especially supermarket and bin bags are now biodegradable so everyone does not need to get their nickers in a knot about these, and as for using paperbags and cardboard boxes think of the damage we are doing to forests.
plasics used carefully are the most used, and useful product around.
Have a lovely Christmas  smile

Why would anybody not let these shop people check their bags ?

Whether it's legal or whether there should be a warrant to look in a hand-bag , why would you not show it ?
Unless you've pinched something of course .

Shoplifting is a major problem , and the cost eventually is added to the prices on the other items , so everything they can do to stop theft only helps keep costs down for the honest shopper .

Shop assisstants are only doing what their job requires them to do .

Re the plastic checkout bags . . . . 95% are biodegradeable now anyway . Hang one on a nail in the shed and see how long i t is before it disintergrates .
 Not long  .

I am one of the oldest on this site I think if not the eldest it doesn't faze me to take a shopping bag in with me in fact I have made a few calico bags to use easy to wash but what I do object to is disposable nappies they never break down and quite a few times used ones are left in public toilets and by the side of the kerb. hey beth
our lives are aligned in the universe
done all those things. at woolies.
so you would know that a bag is not the only place that they hide theft items.
a kilo of prawns down a blokes pants was the talk of the shop one year.

i dont mind paying 10cents for biodegradable, and i'm all for saving the enviroment but lets just use some comensence.

as for them green reusable bags ... no good for me i'm 4'10 and have bad shoulders (curtousy of woolies) and they hold to much so are to heavy and there to long they drag along the ground.

but found a great kid size black shopping at woolies . i take it with me not to the supermarket but when i go to the bakers/butchers/fruit shop etc just a good size. and i put my buys in it myself.

as far as i know anything over the size of an A4 sheet of paper can be searched signs every where in nsw.

i dont carry a handbag (because of shoulders) but would be quite happy to show if i did nothing to hide no prob,

Yep, you're right there. I was 'in' on a 'pick up' of a thief who was a skinny little woman wearing tight tight jeans and was amazed at what she could fit down the front of those jeans. I have many of stories of 'pick ups' by  undercover security. And by the way, they can't pull you up for theft unless someone has witnessed you hiding it and NOT TAKEN THEIR EYES OFF YOU til you leave the store.

As for supermarket bags being biodegradeable...the one's I get, on occassion, aren't. I carry a few in my boot, and they certainly haven't broken down. I left one of the biodregradable one's in the boot with clothes for St Vinnies and it sure broke down quickly! I had a helluva job getting all the little bits out!

The heaviness of the packed green bags are a problem. I can't carry too much weight either. I never thought of getting the child size ones. Thanks for the tip!

hi beth

i actually served the guy the prawns and then as he walked away he stuffed them down his trackies.

the kids bag are available at woolies, there the same as the green ones only smaller,
surprizing how much they hold though, they dont look like a kids bag (and hey that wouldnt worry me if they did lol).

when i was doing the theft reports in the shop i used to witness lots of 5 finger pick ups.

Yes, wouldn't worry me if they looked like kids bags either. Now that I know about them, as mine wear out, I'll replace them with smaller ones.

What a good idea, the smaller bags would be so handy, haven't seen them myself.
I'm only supposed to carry light loads and always like to even it out to both hands. Would be worth looking for the smaller ones.

Target should supply FREE biodegradeable bags if they are as

enviromentally conscious as they claim to be. Also, if they were willing to

supply the old sort of bags for free then why shouldn't they supply the

new ones for free also as we are spending our good money in there shop.

It's not like Target is a struggling business. This is just another way to get

money out of us furious.gif

C/ I too carry 2 folding bags in my handbag for general shopping. Green bags and cold bags are for groceries and kept in the boot until needed.

Most men I know don't carry hand bags, so, if us men want to do the

occasional  'spur of the moment' shopping are we suppose to always keep

our pockets stuffed with empty bags bags?? or do we all buy 'manbags?? confused.gifconfused.gif

As for germy bags..they're probably no germier than the trolley handles. Roach infested bags excepted. eyepopping.giffear.gif

Hmmmm!  Who knows what people have used those bags for before

returning themtoilet.gif

Cheers

Some of you seem to be missing the point.

I'm no raving greeny, not at all, but I do believe we should all be considering how much rubbish we put in the ground..ie: our Earth.

I don't know the numbers or statistics, but there's an enormous amount of plastic and nappies going to the dump.

Is it really so hard to carry some sort of reuseable bags when you go to the shops? There's a huge variety of these type of bags available. Even one's that men can use without looking girly!

I've just returned to SA where recycling has been the way of life for about 20 years.
I've had to get used to taking my shopping bags with me, and I do miss the plastic bags for my bin.
This is also an act of recycling as these bags are biodegradable. Leave one in the car for a few days at it will disintegrate into shreds.
Buying rubbish bags runs against the grain to me too. I'll just have to shop at places which still issue free plastic bags.
I still don't understand why other states haven't taken recycling to the extent SA has. It's most definitely a financially viable enterprise for recyclers who handle the glass, plastic and aluminium.
Not everything has a 10c deposit, but almost everything is recyclable.
Storage is a pain in the butt especially when the depot is 80kms away.

With tongue in cheek... I say, check out the problem now arising about the breaking down of those green bags. It now appears to be a bigger problem than the plastic ones. Don't believe... just check it out. Cheers

The point I made is most men don't want to carry around ANY sort of bag ALL THE TIME on the off chance they want to do some spontaneous shopping

Has anyone seen the news stories that say the green bags are made from 100% Poly Propylene which when left at the rubbish tips will cause more harm to the environment than the plastic bags.

What do they expect us to use then. I have plenty of the green and other colour bags and none have gone out in the rubbish yet as have been using the same ones for years and still in like new condition.

I bet they have not taken the savings they make on not providing bags off the price of their stock.

I choose not to shop at Target either.

I totally agree. I do not understand why shops cannot supply biodegradable bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we can buy biodegradable rubbish bags then it is obvious to me that shops could use them too

Along a simular vein, 95% of plastic waste is in packaging, do away with that and we may yet again end up with real fresh food that has not be tampered with in some way. What about when you went to the butcher and your meat was wrapped up in paper, tied with string (was always impressed how they broke the string), got the vegies on the way home from the side of the road, the milk and cream was often got from the farmer up the road and you seperaed it yourself. The grocies you purchased were put in a cardboard box which you used again to store something in and when its used by date arrived you used it to light the fire. That happened not that many years ago. I get cranky when someone goes into a shop an a customer whats a bag for a couple of small items that could go in a handbag or carried in one hand.
