I'm considering putting an offer in on a Nissan Navara as per topic description.
I've got a 800kg pre loved van so I'm pretty sure weight won't be an issue, but I'm interested in the reliability of the tug. I've done a bit of research and most of the feedback has been positive, but there have been a few negative ones as well.
I have a 2006 3lt twin cab towing an 18' Jayco Heritage - gets along Ok but am getting a snorkel and larger exhaust fitted soon to increase torque. Happy with fuel consumption - averaging 15lts per 100K's towing at 80k's per hr

Thanks for the info I was thinking that I would probably get a snorkel fitted as well. I was a bit concerned about the fuel economy towing the van but if your getting that sort of fuel consumption, mine should be similar.
It's a bit of a beast length wise so I was wondering how you have found the car around the city? I won't be off on the lap until June next year so I still need to have something reasonably easy to get around the city with. Is yours a manual or auto?
Hi Cee - not the easiest vehicle to park in the ever decreasing (size wise) parking spaces - wife has private use of work car (Hyundai i30) so we tend to use that as she prefers it to the Navara. The Navara is a manual and we find it great for holidaying with the van as we can load gennie, fuel, fishing gear and engel in the back. I drive it daily to work and come April will be our only car when we "hit the road". Its my 3rd Navara and has good tow and tow ball rating - better than some of its competitors as well as reasonable fuel consumption for everyday use when not towing. Chap at work has a late model 2.5 lt and fuel consumption when towing is way higher than my 3lt. It can be a bit gutless in 1st but hey, whats the rush. Snorkel and new exhaust should improve power. I don't believe there is a "perfect" vehicle for all occassions and compromises unfortunately must be made - I'm sure this will invoke responses that disagree - horses for courses.

The 2.5L has more power and torque than the 3.0L. But with the indroduction of their new hi-tech V6 diesels next year both motors will be consideedr dinoraurs as the new motor has a massive increase in both power and torque. ozjohn.

Thanks heaps for the feedback it's much appreciated...........I agree it's going to be almost impossible to tick all the boxes..........so I've had RAA check out the Navara and they've come back with the green light.............so I've decided to go for it.........thanks again for the very helpful posts
Thanks for the info ozjohn.........considering I'm a dinosaur as well me and the navara should be a good match...........slowly but surely...........reliability is my main concern I'd love to buy the newer model next year, but unfortunately my bank manager doesn't agree with me
Not the cheapest thing to do but, according to the converts on the Land Rover forum, well worth it in terms of both power and torque. No reliability downside as far as I can tell.
Thanks for all the feedback, I bit the bullet and bought the 2005 3.0lt diesel Navara (Bertha)
I had the RAA check her out and it came back with the green light, she's also got all the extras that I would have had to add so it's saved me a bit that I can put towards "the lap"
