would be the right price, but should i be worried about the age so much, i cant afford to spend alot on a fancy van , and i kind of been thinking of something simple enough, good towing car and still easy to use around town , and maybe travel with my next doggy
so something like a small poptop van would be good for me I know i have thought of a camper van , but , I just feel like i want to be able to go do stuff or look around and leave the van at the park
i think id like to do that to ed course i keep hearing about I cant do any thing till after may june ish when i come back from a trip with my dad to the UK to visit relies , he offered to shout the trip so why not eh??
i know i want to do my own travelling at some stage, i dont care about fancy or posh as long as it keeps me warm at night if cold and easy to tow, park , i dont want to go bigger than 12ft... i hope to travel with my next dog at some stage...
all idea untill mid next year, but are vans ok this age etc?
I just checked my compliance plate and our van was made 9/89. It is a 14ft Viscount. We paid $9,500 for it and we are very pleased with it. Having said that, we saw an awful lot of junk before we paid up our hard earned. We must have visited every used van park in the Northern Brisbane area. The search took us approx 4 months. Eventually we purchased privately through the Trading Post on line. We saw a lot of vans with prices up to 15,000 that were not as good as ours. So, my advice would be - take your time. Look everywhere, be prepared to travel. And do take someone else with you, take a torch to look under beds and in nooks and crannies and search out each and every one of them. As for a tug - I would definately go diesel.

You learn what is value by following ads on net and Trading Post and similar and as Petengail said take your time and look everywhere. There are always people who get too old to camp or take up another hobby and have a nice van or camper that will be just right for you.
We took our tent with our Kombi if we were staying in one place for a few days but then we picked up a one family owned Cub Campomatic. New paint and new mattress and away we went.
Also a 1989 model -we bought it on 2004

our caravan is a 92 model and had only been used a few times as the wife did,nt like caravanning(hard to believe) we were lucky enough to pick it up very cheaply it was for sale in a car yard and i nearly did not go to look as i thought it would be shabby and unroadworthy but all we had to do to re register it was one light globe so be prepared to look at everything lots of luck
HI Milo, I don't think age of van matters. It depends on its condition, and is not falling to pieces. Our Viscount poptop is a 1980 model. Previous owners kept it in good order. We have had it for 2yrs and have done a couple of alterations and added things like solar power and roll up awning. When we brought it it came with everything in it, microwave, tv, crockery cutlery bed linen everything. Tea towels towels, you could have put some food in and hit the road!! We are very happy with it. Good luck with your search, Val

I have a 1976 Baravan! It's in better condition than stuff that is just a few years old, though somewhat more 'spartan' than some of the latest models. The previous owner had fitted electric brakes and a Vitrifrigo 24/12 volt compressor fridge shortly before he upgraded to a newer van with full ensuit facilities. $5,800 but I needed to buy new tyres. I am fitting 420 watts of solar panels, an MPPT regulator, and a couple of 110Ah AGM batteries with the appropriate voltmeter and ampmeter. I'm also removing the two single beds and replacing them with an 'East - West' double.

Old age and treachery will overcome youth and enthusiasm any day.......
Rolly, we almost bought an 1972 Baravan in WA, but I lost my temporary job, the next day, so did not have the funds for it. Wish I took a risk, as it was so light, it was lighter then our box trailer at the time, and we would have stayed out much longer.
AWL, how I managed to come to such an old post, was, it was on the search engine Bing, not realising that both it and this post was dated 2010, but still relevant today. As I also have had older model vans and campers. Baravans were the best design c.van in their day, as they were very stable, very light, and even loaded you could pick up at the hitch of the van and move it around, very good concept.
A lot comes down to condition . Some like myself cant help to improve things as they age . So home on wheels keeps up with the times ! Replacing 8 track etc
our van is a full one its a QUEST 14 foot van weight is 850 k and towing it i have a falcon .....we go all over the sa state but stay in van parks were not setup for cheap camping ......the van is a 1967 one in very good condition and is 2 berth there is an awning we use when away
.......
I have a 13ft Avan Gabrielle Pop Top and love it. So easy to tow, I can park ute and van in a double car park at the supermarket etc. I put sliders in a cupboard with a chemical toilet therein. installed airbags inside to lift the roof (I am an oldish single lady), a diesel heater (awesome) and wallah, super comfortable. Been travelling on my own for 2 years with no problems at all (except reversing into a few things )
