I don't know if you want to deviate, but Longreach may be a good option if you haven't been there, you may have to backtrack though depending on the way you want to go. Good parks at Barcaldine (Top Tourist), Charleyville ( a couple there) and Kidmans Camp about 7kms north of Bourke (well worth looking around there too, see Fred Hollows grave, visit outback centre, boat ride on Darling River (rear of Kidmans Camp). Cobar has one of the best caravan parks around. I believe Emerald has a nice C/Park too, although we've never been there.

Keep in mind Dougs Place at Chinchilla too.   Provided you are self sufficient and weather permitting

If you use the Newell highway, you'll pass the Warrumbungles N. P.near Coonabarabran. Absolutely beautiful!

It will all be pretty hot out there at that time of year.

Yes you are right Lily...  The Warrumbungles/Coonabarabran might be the only cool night's sleep you have on the trip!

I was thinking in general of the land between there and Broken Hill at Christmas-time.

Check out this Google Maps link for a suggested route.  You can use this as a start and modify it to suit your own schedule.   It includes the above suggestion re Warrumbungles.

A suggested (overnight) caravan park is Possum Park, 20km north of Miles (Kowguran in the above map).  Check it is open at that time of the year.

PS: Most caravanners going from Rocky to Theodore go via the Capricorn/Leichhardt hwy rather than Mt. Morgan.

From Rocky I love the trip west to Emerald, south to Springsure, Roma, then Cunnamulla, down to Bourke, Cobar and then east to B/Hill.
The Darling River will be the best it's been for years, and there is a lot to see along the way.
Around Springsure is the Carnarvon Gorge, Roma is a nice region. I love that country.
Lots of choices.
I'm heading to SA from Cairns, for Christmas, but I'm going down the middle at this point in time.
I've started the cleaning up and packing up after being parked up for two long years, but I'm leaving much healthier than when I arrived.
Safe and happy travels whichever way you go.
Maybe we could catch up in SA. Check out my PM.

Getting back to the topic...... Helena has posted a suggested campsite titled "new camp spot" .... may be relevant to your travels.
