I brought a preloved van that has been set up with solar power, sadly, the elderly gentlemen I bought the van from has dementia and couldn't answer a lot of the questions I had about the set up of the solar power and his wife didn't have any idea at all.
As I plan to be on the road for 12 months I really need to understand as much as I can about the set up.
I thought I'd get some expert advice and think it's worth paying someone to come and check out the van set up and explain it to me (and draw a diagram if possible), my question is do I call out an auto electrician or a caravan servicing company to do this.............or does anyone have any other suggestions?
Hi Cee, Probably better to try & find a vaner that is familiar with & is using a solar setup living near you who can advise you. My solar setup on my van I instaled my self & built the regulator aswell, so the Wife made me write down how it all works & laminate the instructions & leave in the van just in case!!!! Daryl
Why not put a couple of photos of the unit on here & ask the questions you want, some one may know before you spend money, if you want to have it looked at ask the auto lect,

Probably neither. Caravan service people know little about 12 V stuff (although you may just find someone in one who does.) Auto electricians know little about solar (but again you may find one who does.) Try looking for someone who sells and installs solar equipment.

I have consulted Rainbow Power Co at Nimbin on several occasions & have found them to be full-bottle about all solar issues. They are accredited & have installed & designed many setups & also sell just about everything to do with solar, but are not the cheapest supplier. They have a web site & have published a handy solar manual which I have purchased after looking at their very impressive stand-alone installation at Hidden Valley in Nth Qld. If you can take your van down to them they would certainly be able to help or contact them via email.
