.. Time for the big lap!!

Well .. it's freezing back here in NSW ..

.. after 5 weeks in the beautiful climate of North Qld, one wonders how I could be back here already ..
From now on, it'll be the north for winter each year ..

I had recently travelled to Perth/back and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So much so, that I'm going to do the full lap (clockwise) to end up back in Nth Qld for next winter ..

Australia has so much to offer .. and although we might have different preferences, it's all there for us.
After having only been on the road for a short time, I find it difficult to imagine that I'd ever be do anything else !

My thanks for all the support I've received by you guys 'n gals .. and I can only hope that other 'newbies' starting out will seek those goals that they dreamed about .. and to ask for support on here from those that know the answers by their own experiences ..

A few HF Radio rallies to attend to before Christmas, then off to the west again .. but not heading up the West Coast 'til at least March.

See some of you folks on the road ..

Jon (currently in Parkes, NSW)

Hmm. i see the weather for Orange (just down the road from Parkes) will be -1c to a massive 14c tomorrow. Hope you didn't throw out your woolly p.j's up north.

(or your woolly socks and beannie)

Hi there JW ..

I thought you'd pick up on that .. but I'm only here (at Parkes) 'til Thursday .. then down to "" BLAYNEY "" to replace a faulty spare tyre for the trailer ..
BUT .. thats not all .. then it's back to my old paddock at Macquarie Woods !

Forecast is for lots of rain in the net week or so .. but  I know this nice camp-spot in Nth Richmond if I get washed-out .. hehe !

'hi' to Anne ..

Blaney, BLANEY!  You are going to BLANEY Jon.  Don't you know that Blaney is the coldest place on earth.  It's even colder than Orange.   Poor Jonathan........no

Very true  Jonothan, very true.   If you have time while you are in Blaney pop into the Chinese restuarant Police Station end of town.   One of the better ones in the Central West.  Can't for the life of me remember it's name it's been so long since I lived in the area.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Jonathon.....................time for the electric blanket............at least you have a few weeks of sunshine and warmth................and judging by the photo............you can always look back on the wonderful sunset you saw.

See (or should that be Cee?) you on the road one day I hope.

Keep Smiling :)

Don't knock Blaney Ma - yes it can be cold but the store there will weigh your gas bottles and refill charging only for the gas you need.  Great for the little outside cooking bottle and what a great camp at Carcoar Dam.  I was in there only a week or so ago and what do you reckon the only other vehicles in there were Tassies too!

Not knocking Blaney JA.  When you have been a local you are allowed to "affectionately" have a shot at the weather.  As for the town and the locals, 10 out of 10 every time.

Hi Folks .. sorry I've missed some of these posts .. I forgot to subscribe to it !! duhhhh ! ..

In hindsight Cee .. I did have a beautiful and warm time up in Qld .. now back in NSW for a while and still catching a few of the cold nights left .. I plan now to keep following 'summer' around Oz for another few years ..

Hi Ginger .. Actually knocked up quite a few .. 36000 k's. No regrets whatever though. I knew, as I love driving anyway, that I would just move around and enjoy myself. This I did, and now a year later and happy with my travelling setup, I hope to depart before Christmas to head west again .. even 3 months in the middle of summer between Adelaide and Albany .. then up the west coast around March ..

12 months from now I should just be getting back to the Sydney area .. however .. I've learnt that one has to stay flexible ..

Jon ..  (currently near Singleton,NSW)

Now, thats the sort of priceless information we need to keep a note of.  Two Tasmanians here, planning on hitting the road for the "round the block" trip of a lifetime, starting in Late February/March.  Any advice/tips/suggestions/warnings would be VERY gratefully received by the Tassie Devils.

Jon - what about a blog of your travels? I am sure there are lots of us who would love to read regular updates of your travels.

Hi Wendy ..

I  must say that I'm probably not really into blogging .. maybe its because what I'm doing is mainly for my myself.
.. and also in my case because I'm on the road fulltime, I don't take very many pics at all. I'm still out here enjoying my life and revisiting many of the people and places I've already been to .. I don't have a need to go back home later to view my trips away ..

I suppose it's just a personal choice Wendy .. who knows ? .. inspiration may one day come out of left field and I might surprise everyone ..

Oh Jon, what can I say to convince you to keep some sort of journal or diary of your travels.
While you are doing it for yourself, it would be a shame to waste all those experiences and travel tips.
It doesn't have to be a travelogue or journal exactly. It could be just your personal interpretation of what you see and experience. Descriptions of some of the characters your meet, the terrain or region which grabs your attention the most, and why. The options are endless.
Too much experience to waste though. Even if you keep it and read it when you can't do it anymore. Or hand it to the family to read in your absence.
There are so many reasons to write about your travels.
Don't be too rigid with correct grammar etc, just write your impressions of people and places with your own personal comments and humorous interpretations.
I love interpreting silly signs. Well, the signs are necessarily silly, but the configuration lends itself to one-liners.
eg. Slow Children Crossing. It should read Slow. Children crossing.
I got a million of them.
But please don't keep it to yourself forever.

A video camera with hard drive records the date and I say each time I start filming where I am, (if I can remember??!!)  Hopefully, when I can no longer drive, I will still be able to see and re-live my travels.  Mine takes stills too.
