Hi there everyone, Can anyone in the experienced field of travellers tell me what is the correct regime in takin g dely of new van. Meaning, is the dealer required to fill the gas bottles? Is the customer supposed to be given a gas certificate form along with registration? And what is the dealer legally required to do in handing over a new purchase. Hope someone has good advice.
From my experience with an A'Van camper and Jayco pop top, both had compliance certifcates for gas (and electrics I think) and the gas bottles were filled in both RV's at new by the dealer or manufacturer (not sure which). A'Van also supplied an on board auxillary battery, but Jayco although it had a battery case didn't supply the battery. I don't think Coromal do either.
The will also be instruction booklets and warranties from the manufacturers for various appliances in the van such as stove/microwave/fridge/aircon which you need to fill out and return in most cases or do them online.
The selling dealer will also put either 6 or 12 months rego on the van and put in your name as part of the on road costs etc. They will also change over the towing connections compatible to your vehicle on the van lead, depending on the type fitted to your vehicle. eg; Utilux or Anderson plugs etc.
They will also give you a handover of the van showing you how things work etc, this is the time to have a good look at things to make sure everything is working ok and getting them to acknowledge any items needing attention etc or minor damage to the van.
Others may wish to add to what I have said, it may be different for different dealers or makes of the particular van etc.

Hi.....we paid $800 for pre-delivery.in that was 12 months registration and 2 x4.5kg gas cylinders filled also there was suppose to be a 2 hour hand over.......showing everything and how its used (rollout awning etc).. we didnt get to see much as most of the time was consumed in the wrong battery pack and charger being installed..6 weeks later and still not sorted.. My advice..........check..double check.....and get any problems sorted out before you leave the yard..............once out they dont want to know you.....and most of all....get everything you ordered or found faulty in writing.....cause they will deny you ever mentioned it.
I can relate to the above - when we picked up our pre-loved van 18 months ago, we were assured the tyres were legal, so they would not replace them - last Christmas we had to buy four new tyres on our way to Canberra!!! They also told us that a new battery would be fitted- yeah right! New to the van perhaps, but cetainly not a new, new battery. Because we were 'novices' to caravanning, as you say, once we had passed over the money and they had 'taken us through everything' (in other words 'information overload', they dealer did not want anything to do with us again. So, us being us, took off the spare wheel cover advertising the dealer - stuff 'em!!!! We have spoken to others that have bought vans through this dealer, and all say the same thing.

Hi Fellas, I have just taken delivery of a new van,and I treated it like taking delivery of a new car. I got the 12 months rego and the 2 hour brief,however was told I had to fill the gas bottles. Since I have crawled over it after moving it from the yard,I have been a bit disgusted with the workmanship. Sealant all over the place up top and 3 ply wedges underneath. maybe I should have spent another 2 hours going over it.
