After a thunder storm that raged all night and hasn't stopped raining yet we have had 45mm to 9am and a further 10mm to 12noon.
All the roads out of White Cliffs were closed two days ago due to overnight rain and the only road that remained open was the sealed road south to Wilcannia.
Today, even the sealed road south out of town has been cut in three places by floodwaters and the locals do not know when it may be open if the rain keeps drizzling down as it is.
A number of caravaners who packed up and left this morning are either stranded just south of town, or have come back to spend another day or two in friendly White Cliffs.
Lucky we don't have a timetable to adhere to - love this nomad lifestyle - as long as the tucker and wine lasts ! !
Cheers
Julie & John

It doesnt rain terribly often out there...we were caught for a day in 2006, and enjoyed ourselves. Fascinating place, went for dinner in the Underground Motel.
Now you have a good excuse to browse all the opal shops, maybe find a bargain!

White Cliffs is worth a visit, one of the last frontier towns left in Oz .It's quirky laconic residents are a treasure to have a yarn to ,how they found wealth and some lost the lot. Have a look at the Childrens cemetry as you can learn about the harsh early history of the place. Or follow the self guided heritage trail
Mutawiri and Paroo- Darling National Parks are also nearby.
This weekend is the anual Music Festivial also .17th to 19th May.
Best time to visit is in the cooler months as it can get hotter than Hell out in these parts of NSW.
How is it that posts as old as this one pop up again from 3 years ago? surely you would have to look back thru something like a 1000 pages to come across this post. Cheers David
Sometimes if you google a place, a reference to this site will come up with the relevant post on it - reader doesn't see the date, maybe, or they do a "search" on here for a particular place. That's my thought on it anyway.
