Selling handmade carft at markets

Hi all,

As you know from my newbie status that I have not been long doing this. But I hope to partly support myself by selling handcrafted bone jewellery at markets. I am currently at Caboolture for this Sunday and wonder if there are any tips or tricks to make this a success. And if there are other places that this may work. I had looked at Umundi, but that location does not seem to have enough areas to camp.

I don't know anything about selling at markets but i have seen crafty people set up a table near their vans in caravan parks and sell stuff during happy hour.

I have a friend who travels and sells her crafts at markets. She does very well, it helps cover her costs in travelling. She also will set up a table at her campsite and sell from there, happy hour or rally I'm not sure.
Get yourself a book from the newsagent that advertises all the markets Australia wide. Then you can always book ahead if you know you are going to be in a particular town.

HI,  You are so right re shortage of facilities near Eumundi.  Please have a look at my posting titled 'Safe Site at Eumundi - Would anyone be interested in this?'  I would really appreciate your feedback!!!!!
FYI - The Eumundi Markets are great.  You really need to have the bulk of your product at a very reasonable price to attract customers because of the competition for dollar.
There are 5 or 6 different sections of the market that are owned by different people, with different stall booking requirements and pricing structures plus prices vary between Wednesday & Saturday.  Stall sites can vary from $18 to $80 per day.
Other local markets are Yandina (Sat), Harbourside Tewantin (Sun), Cooroy (Thurs) Pomona (fortnightly), Perigian & Coolum on some school holidays.
Best wishes, Lois

Thanks to you all for the ideas. I actually did the market at the Caboolture on Sunday, it cost $15.00 for the site.
The cost included insurance and I had enough room to park the car and erect a 3metre square gazebo. A lot of interest in my work, but the money is not around.
Also have to find a way of going to the loo. Which is difficult when alone. Had to leave the dog at a kennel as well. Separation issues for us both.

regards again Peter biggrin

Eumundi markets is "niche market" and very hard to get a spot. My daughter in law waited abour 12 months before she was accepted, and then on the outer fringes. Through years of dedication she has worked her way into the popular centre.

Hi Dunmowin, sorry the the delay with the reply. had to move the van and setup again. The information about Eumundie is interesting and something that I have not heard before. Will have to give it a visit as they all rave about it. I may not have said that, I would like to follow the heat and move up the coast in winter and travel back south, when it gets to hot.

regards Peter biggrin
