We have a little sportsliner A'Van camper and was wondering if we could use an 80 watt solar panel fixed to one of the side roofs it would just be for keeping the battery topped up, we only have the lights running off 12 volt and the tap. would 80 watt be enough and would it make the roof really heavy. Thanks for your help Helena.
yeah ,80 watt solar panel would be more than ample and it should'nt weigh to much, but you will also require a pv controller to transfer the energy from the panel to your battery
I've seen a number of Avans in the caravan parks with solar panels on the front (sloping) roof. These appear to be mostly 40 watt panels judging by the size, so 40 watt maybe adequate. If you're mainly free camping you will need to park facing approximately north to get the best out of the panel. Not an issue in caravan parks as you'll probably be on "ground" (240v) power.
I have a BP 80w solar panel....its very lite....I wouldnt have it mounted.. as Jim said you have to face north.....on the ground at least you can chase shadows......my panel has a regulator..produces about 5amps.....for my 120 amphour battery....My waeco draws 1ampper hour...so it keeps my battery charged.
yes we do free camp quite a bit I've seen the A'vams with the solar panels on but never been able to be close enough to enquire about them thanks once again for your help. Helena.
