This may sound like a dumb question, but what holds them up there, is it just the ladder? THey intrigue me. smile

It does look very "roomy", I'm intrigued. Can I ask - how much did it cost and do you need any particular modifications to the roof of the car? Also - can you put up a before and after photo (what does it look like when it is packed up)

if you to ebay and type in roof top tent its in there ,there are several different ones, ill put up a pic next time of it all folded up its placed on a rhino rack and yes firefly what holds it up if you take a good look one end is held on the top of car its all on a base and thats how it comes delivered then
what you do is take the cover off and then grab the ladder and pull on it this enables the whole thing to pull out over car, most cars if they are like a big patrol have got them coming off the back of there car , but because the forester is now as high even though we are lifting it ,we wanted it to come off the side, it also came with a part that zips around the part where the ladder is ? this enables you to not get wet when its raining ,other ones on the net had ladders outside of the tent part at the very end so if you were trying to get in at night in rain you would get quite wet.

it came with also a screened room that has a slide on thing that clips on to other side of car but we have found its more or less made for a larger car like a patrol as its too long for ours ?so we are possibly going to try to sell the screened room to someone with a patrol or some larger car.

we could have it modified but not sure what of the cost ? and the whole cost was 1490 delivered .
but make sure if you do intend to buy that you get the same as we did ,as its much better with the ladder going up on the inside you will see if you takea look on ebay what we mean , they were for sale here in arb without the screen room and they were $1800 so it pays to do research thats for sure, we are realy looking forward to it, the mattress is rather hard so we will try it out with one of them eggshell things on it first and if that doesnt work we will cut a piece of softer foam ourselves to fit it ,all in all its fabulous i reckon .any more questions feel free to ask or if anybody ever in our area like i said feel free to pm me and perhaps a cuppa could be found :) cheers
