Brand New Nomad

Hello everyone
I have just, this minute joined up and, not being that computer literate, am trying to attach a photo and get the hang of communicating with people.  I live with my dogs on a farm in the Southern Tablelands and am working on travelling with my 'kids'. I have a copy of "Camps 4" and am gathering the things I might need. I hope this communication works and I 'meet' some friends.
Cheers
Allara

Welcome Allara. Your "Kids" look like a handful of fun. I've got 2 Chuahuas' [live] and 2 Toys that yours could have modelled for. About the same size too.
Any queries just yell, and some-one will usually be able to help.

Cheers,
Sheba.

Hi Allara...I am in the same situation as yourself. Except for me a Golden Retriever is my master.
From my observations about this place there is a whole bunch a wise and worldly singles here who will i am sure set on onto the right path and in the right directions too. A never ending trail of discovery and adventure is out there ( i am told ).
Good luck and welcome.

Welcome Allara, and safe and happy travels.
Are you planning on travelling with all those dogs? What are you travelling in?
You're a very brave lady to be travelling with all your "kids". I hope they're well behaved in the vehicle. All the best.
I do it on my own with no pets, except "Tom" my smutty GPS.

Hello everyone

Thank you for all your great responses, I really feel welcome. It gets a bit lonely out on the farm with only the dogs to talk to, thats why I am looking to start out on the road.

I'm currently looking at a ford spacecab TD to pull my old viscount 18' van. I have camped with the 'kids' at Condobolin for 4weeks before and that was OK. Just takes a lot of time to set up etc. I will need to investigate other dog friendly places.
I also need to rig up dog boxes for the back of the ford (it has a tray back) to carry some of the dogs.
I could probably do it myself if I could find out where I can get some insulated material, like caravan walls I think, to work with. I would be gratefull for any ideas you may have.

Here are a couple of photos you might like to see. It can get  pretty cold here.

Cheers Allara

Hi there Rainey,
Would love to hear where you have been, and how you get on with the dogs. My tray back won't be ready for another 3 weeks, so can't do much until it comes. Am busting to get going.
Cheers
Allara

Hi Allara and Border's

They look like a fine pack!
I have not been 'in' to the site recently, I have been flat out at work and with my house mate for whom I am carer - things have been a bit hectic!
I travel with my 2 mates, both Whippets, aged coming up 5 yrs and coming up 1 yr.  My older boy now has his CCD and hopefully on this years holidays he will gain CD (he does not trial well up here in Darwin for some strange reason...)
Connor the pup has had a Minor and a Puppy in Show so far and will start trialling soon to.

Welcome to the site, everyone here is so very friendly and helpful I have always found.

Always good to have someone who is a fellow doggie person!

 Hi Pawsoz
Glad to meet you.  Did you know that a whippet won the Sydney Royal Dog Show! My guys are 'bench dogs' and they help on the farm with the stock. I would like to do some obedience, but I can't figure out what they want me to do. They are very smart dogs.
Is there a NT Canine Council? One day we may be able to travel up to see you guys. Still waiting on my new wheels.
Cheers
Allara, Maggie, Susie, Remi and Ted

Allara and family

You bet there is a NT Canine Council!

In July/August there is a show spectacular with shows in Alice Springs>Tennant Creek>Katherine and Darwin, not just 1  but a few in Alice and a whole Carnival in Darwin then I think there are shows back in Alice for those driving back down again.

It is all very relaxed and a bit Country Show 'ish!

There are also agility and obediance trials.

I will be doing SA and Victoria shows in August and September on my trip South

Are you in Vic or NSW?

Snow...you lucky thing!

Dog boxes for the back of your tray, have you thought of buying 2nd hand dog trailer, removing running gear and mounting on back of tray top?  Friends from Tassie travelled around the big island for a couple of years like that with their Labbies!

Annie and the skinny fast dogs (who love Border Collies coz they are always up for a spot of chase)

Thanks Pawsoz,
I suppose there is a website I can investigate these shows? It's a real possibility I will be able to come.

I live in NSW, not far from Goulburn, up on the Tablelands.

Last year I did the 'Western Run', out from Condobolin for 4 or 5 weeks from mid Aug to mid Sept. would like to try the NT.

Had thought of the trailer idea but the ones I found were too small for my guys and I really need at least 4 boxes, but 6 would be better, also some of the prices people are asking are 'over the top'. Have located some material suppliers and an engineering shop that will manufacture boxes for me to my design. Just waiting on picking up the vehicle so I can get accurate measurements. Have changed from a Ford to a Mazda BT50 spacecab.

The snow is great, I really suffer from the humidity when I go up to Sydney to see the two legged kids.

Cheers
Allara

Hey Allara & kids. Love the photo of you and your family. We have a 10yo border, mid length hair, one blue eye, one brown. loves to travel in back of our 4WD and loves camping. We are planning our whole trip around him. If he can't go there, we wont go there.

If you are getting close to Brisbane, let us know, we might be able to help you out for a while - we are on four acres.

Hi Dunmowin and Milo
I love your 'doggy in the window' what a pretty kid. My kids go everywhere with me and they have a ball. Now I have finally replaced my traybck, which was stolen, the dogs are so happy. Today we spent doing some fencing and we are all worn out. I would love to visit sometime if I get to Brisbane, and dogs are always welcome at my place. I am about 60km outside of Goulburn NSW.

When I am travelling Milo, I have dog crates that go on the back of the 'truck' and the younger dogs stay in them while the oldies stay in the cabin with the windows open a bit. They are quite used to spending time in the vehicle and will settle down to sleep while I do whatever I need to. The main thing is to make sure they are in the shade, or an undercover carpark. If I am going to be a fair while I take them to the park etc for a 'wee' walk, give them a drink and they are fine while I do my shopping etc. They have been doing this since they were puppies. If I stay at someones place, that are not doggy people, the dogs will sleep happily in or on the truck all night. I will post a photo later.

Cheers
Allara
