ANOTHER CYCLONE

Attached is the image re the two cyclones tracking across the Pacific at present.  The gurus at the Bureau of Meteorology at the airport tell me that the one closest to Australia is forcast to track further south towards Rocky or thereabouts.  Cannot really predict what these things will do though.

The Eastern cyclone is hammering Fiji as I write.

Bit of rain and wind gusts here at present.  Nothing major.

Ian

Wow! What site is that from?
The BOM site images aren't so dramatic and graphic.
I had a look at the tracking yesterday and it looked like somewher south of Mackay could cop it.
The big one was downgraded to a Cat 4, but the second one seems to have been produced by the original TC.

Chris

Got the image direct from the Bureau of Meteorology lads at Cairns Airport.  They have access to a range of NASA feeds.

When I get back to work on Thursday I will get the site address and I will post it to the forum.

Hope both of these buggers miss us.

Cheers

Ian

Yeah, I'm hoping they miss us too as I'm just out of Gladstone, on the beach and they mentioned us in the last report. I'd be very unhappy if my new(nearly) Regent was scratched

Thanks Ian, that would be very special for me. Weather watching is a hobby, but I'm not a storm chaser, just a storm watcher.
The wet seasons can be very exciting especially if there are spekky thunderstorms.
I reckon they'll be pushed out of the way as long as that big high stays in the Tasman Sea and keeps the pressure on as it is now.
Cyclones are fickle things, and while they're a long way away, it's a good thing.
It's unusual for cyclones which form so far east get to Oz, but there are no rules with these things.
Lets all do what ever we do to make sure it goes away. Unsecured caravans don't like these things much, and I'll be in Brissy next week.

Hi Granny. I am watching the cyclones as I want to get back to work after my summer hols. Are you on the road at last?I would recomend that the people who want to go to Cairns go via the New England highway and via the coastal roads as the rest are affected by the big rains. I was stopped at Rolleston and had to do a 550klm detour. If you have comuputer access , then the racq or nma are the go.Am looking at a caravan afer a number of years with a slide on camper. An old vicount that I want to modify to suit my self, suspension, fild out canopy , etc. Have a good trip. Bill

Hi Bill, still in Cairns, but I'm really hoping to be given the all clear by mid-May.
We are very fortunate to have the internet to refer to in these circumstances.
Have a safe trip, and don't go back to work until the cyclone has blown itself out.
You'd be evacuated anyway, wouldn't you?
I saw a great slide on here in town this weekend.
A Lancruiser tray-back with dual rear axles, one drive and one lazy, and a large slide on with solid roof.
Looked pretty useful to me for a slide on. I'm not a fan but this one would have served the purpose.
I saw a similar set up with pop-top on the back of a Nissan Patrol with the same axle configuration.
But I reckon I'd get sick of it after a while. It would be ok for short trips. Bush bashing could be a problem with the height in overhanging trees on back tracks etc.
