Caravan covers

Now I'm here, thought  I'd ask if anyone has got a cover for van; we at home for a while, and van is in driveway. Hubby thought of getting one made but I saw some on Ebay. Does anyone have any ideas. We have 21ft Jayco. We're hoping to set off again later in the year; was going north Alice Darwin etc. but the bank account says we must stay home and work for a while !!!!

Jayco themselves have fair range of covers, not the cheapest but good stuff.I only use a tarp to cover the roof and keep feral foulings from it,I have this theory that a cover does not let enough air to circulate in the van and keep it fresh.............now that is Irish.lolRegards Paddy.

For a variety of reasons I decided not to construct a  carport type for my van when I got it 11years ago .. big mistake.

Over the years. I have used the best available quality silver tarps at around $70 each.  I get ones that come right down to the windows with broccoli boxes tied in place between the van roof, airconditioner and the tarp.
I put the shadecloth that we use as an annex floor when traveling over the top.
All of this is held in place with light polly ropes attached to the tarp via hooks made from coathangers & old car tyre rubber bands (same as the ones I use to tie down the ends of my annex when on the road).  The slots in the chassis of the Jayco van are used for tying off the single ropes that run the length of van on each side.

The tarps used this way last at least 3 years without the shadecloth & 4 with it.

She who must be obeyed is always at me to buy one of the commercial van covers but I always balk at the price of those big enough for a 21'6" van.  I'll have another look when the current tarp expires.

But as I said I should have done the right thing & erected a carport in the first place.

ps.  The way I tie off the tarp allows a flow of air over the van roof.  I  close off the roof vents & open the windows to lift the tarp sides away from the van walls & also let an air flow thru the van itself.  The van door is usually opened during the day & the security screen looked.

Agree. Carport way to go. If you go cover then get one that has the zip door otherwise you need to roll up the entire side to get access for those small internal jobs

This is a good subject for me, just bought one off ebay for about $170 and that was a big mistake, you can't see the quality over the net so I didn't realize there was a big difference between different covers. I will wait until this one disintergrates ( won't take long) and then get the proper thing, one that has proper eyelets and straps to take out the flapping from the almost incessant wind. Ebay can be good for a lot of things but I suppose you have to know what you are getting

Thanks for the input people- we have a lovely big double shed, was great for the 17ft pop top!!!! Current van parked in front of shed in drive-way. Will look at what Jayco have to offer and yes had already thought way to go would be zip opening for easy access. Just want to keep the dust etc of it while we're home.
 Cheers to all

We bought a cover for our 17ft pop top Jacyo for $249.  It has zippered sides for access and vents along the top edge.   Does a very good job but I wouldn't want to be pulling it down and putting it up too often (which is required for us as in winter we go camping most days off).  It is very heavy and it took me several goes to work out a system to put the thing on the van without breaking my back and having the neighbours complaining about my language.  It is water, dust and bird poo proof.  Not entirely hail proof thought.
