Hey Guys n Gals,

Have recently changed over to APIA, they are cheaper for my needs, 2007 SsangYong Actyon with a suspension lift which I pay for monthly at $39/mth, I was also advised today that they also insure according to the mileage I do each year, as I do over 30000ks a year I have a higher premium, if i was to do less the premium would come down.

I also just got a quote from them for my contents at the unit which is my base station for $20000, they also included a quote for my camping gear which I valued at a minimum of $12000.... the quote was just over $44 a month for both.

CAUTION WITH CONTENTS INSURANCE

There is one catch that many people are not aware of when they take out contents insurance for the home base while you're away...  If you are away in excess of a set number of days/nights they will not pay, with APIA it is 60 nights and they say they will go out as far as 90 nights abscence...

So if you are going away for in excess of this how would you get around the clauses.... would a house sitter suffice, would it be suffice to have a police inspection monthly, what would they deem acceptable.

Something more to worry about...

Hoo Roo Happy Days

We found APIA the way to go for us too.

Much easier working out a budget with monthly premiums instead of lump sums.

The terms and conditions suited us as well.

Have ALL our insurance with them now

My van is with CIL, and the tug is with Allianz via National Seniors somehow. Good price and I had no hassles with a claim when I "bumped" into a little red car in Cairns.
I've advised I have changed the use of my vehicle with no adverse response.
I think it's best to shop around for your own needs and circumstances.

Your National Seniors and our APIA are probably both very similar CG as they are both underwritten by Allianze

I'm with APIA and have arranged for house and contents to extend to 90 days absence without paying any excess premium. I gained the impression that I could have arranged for more than 90 days but a premium loading would apply. APIA did question me on issues such as deadlocks, window locks, smoke alarm, mail clearance/redirection, deliveries canceled etc, etc.

RACWA told us to make sure somebody stayed overnight once every 3 months.

Son does that and also makes a few phone calls (to UK) from our home base at 0300 so there is a record of him being there.
