Hi everyone..It has been a long time since i posted so long in fact that when i last visited there was no solo forum...so i thought i would like to introduce myself a little better. I became solo when my husband passed away in 07...We had plans of travelling around oz with a 2nd hand van he got for us just one month before he passed...needless to say we didn't get the chance to use it. After the fog had lifted I decided to get the show on the road for the both of us. Our car a 80's Pajero broke down and so I decided to pull out my super and buy a newer model 4wd to pull the van....I live out of town and needed a 4wd to cross causeways anyway so it wasn't a totally impulsive buy. My new car is a 02 xtrail...my van is a 79 viscount 15ft. Jack was a mechanic and so I never had to know anything about cars and all things mechanical.....The road I have travelled up to this point has been an enormous learning curve.I have been doing alot of research to get to know all about my new car and also about all things relating to towing the van. I started my working life as an office worker, and then crossed over to nursing later. My research folder is huge I reckon I'm showing signs of being a frustrated office girl or something..or .maybe I'm just beginning to procrastinate too much.. Anyway I'm beginning to rave on....I just want to say Hi to you all... you all sound like such great people....I have a few questions about van sizes (thinking of trading in mine for a smaller one) and what I can expect to pay but I will post them later. The solo girls here seem to stick together and are a friendly bunch so i am sure it wont be long before you have some new buddies and even more information to file away.
I am looking around for a suitable set up also but i notice there is a strong trend when it comes to rigs for solo females, motor homes and campers. They make a lot of sense ...one registration, always ready to just up and go and secure. There is a member here who has a Coromal Pioneeer Compac and i have seen a similar one for sale recently, a great van by my standards.
But really i think van size a prices are all about how long you intend living in it. The longer the term the more comforts required.
The caravan show is on here soon, i hope that will help me make up my mind as to what type of vehicle suites me best.

Welcome back! I am a solo lady traveller, and I have a 2003 Xtrail auto, and I tow a Coromal rear door pop top. It is just the best rig for me, easy to tow, low profile top, I have solar and can't fault it. A good feature of this van is that is has independant suspension and a front boot. A lot of smaller vans don't have these. Great for one person, or two who like each other very much!!! LOL

Welcome back Dreamchaser. Nice to see you're back, and your front. I have a bigger, full van I tow around and live in full time. A couple of girls on this site have small, rear door vans such as Xtrail51 above. They seem to be very happy with their rigs. All the best to you with your decisions. I'm glad it's you and not me, but you seem to have done your homework, which will stand you in good stead when you find the van for you. Asking questions is the only way to learn.

Hi Jude, as you can see I have the Xtrail plus Coromal Pioneer Compac, the second GN to have one. I have been living in this for 2 1/2 years and very happy with it. Worth a look I think. Good luck with the hunt. You will know when you step into a van and it just feels right. Helen
