Ibbo, I went to school in Gateacre but spent most of my time before 20 in Speke.

As for footie, I am one of the "other lot"

Not doing very well at mo.

Son in law in Oz (theyre both in Oz so don't know why I said it!) is an Evertonian so we are always winding him up! He is himself quite handy footballer.

Sorting van out yesterday and found water stains in both rear corners - bummer.

Need to re-seal the awning rails.

I think it's because it's had snow on the roof for a month so it's melted and gradually found it's way in. - it's not bad - it'll fix.

Not much chance of snow in WA I guess confuse

the snow would freeze the sealant then when it thaws it would crack, I would assume this to be an ongoing problem in areas like that!

Sealant in UK is supposed to remain sticky with a hard outer skin but it does get hard over the years so removing the rails and resealing is a regular job. Not sure if you do that in Oz

As for gas & electric, no real problems so far. With electric, I would guess I'd use my existing UK connector into the van but the cable would need an Oz plug/socket at the power supply end?

Van has RCCB so I guess it would be Ok but I'm still wading throught the regs.

I just converted to propane so that we could camp in sub zero tempertures in Scotland (didn't dissapoint, it was minus 11 degrees during the day!)

Previous system was butane.

Pressures in UK are 28 mbar for butane and 37 mbar for propane, change over didn't affect the van and is recognised as safe by the Caravan manufacturers.

Just need to check Oz pressures (i guess you use Butane?)

The Oz govt trailer build manual seems to state that the rear reflectors would have to be round whereas they are triangular in UK.

Still, plenty of time to sort it once I've got the info.

Had a look, thought it was a bit scary at first but it's only right that the van should be up to scratch - I'll make sure that it is up to standard before I ship it.

Not a problem unless you have something to hide.

I wonder how the vehicles referred to got into the country in the first place, are the regs recent?

Hi and welcome from me as well.
It sounds as though you have already done a lot of homework on your travels to Oz and around.
There are self-storage places in and around Perth where you could store your van for any period of time if you're not going to live in it full-time.
If you know of anyone with a larger rural block on the metro outskirts you may be able to do a deal for storing the motor home.

Thanks "Granny" (I'm married to one of them (Joyce - email is "nanny2six....)and she thinks you are "cool" - like me, she's never grown up, full of fun but knackered!)

Two daughters in Perth, one stores a truck near to her home, maybe use that facility?

Other daughter only just arrived from UK (13 weeks), renting, waiting for Brit Pound to be worth something and will then build.

Having said that, Joyce was looking at caravans on Oz ebay and has already (in her mind) got ours sold for a bigger one so we can go the whole hog and sell up to go on the road permanently.

Thing is, she's on a ****tail of drugs she has to take daily, in UK we just go to the doctor's surgery and get prescriptions 3 months in advance but I've heard you can't do that in Oz? I wonder how you manage if you are away from base for months on end?

I also have to survive on a c o c k tail of pills.
Before you leave your home get a full medical record from your local doctor with details of the health problems.
Then get him/her to make a list of all the medication and dosages required and how often.
I don't think the UK prescriptions will be viable here, but that will give you a bit more homework before you set off. If the scripts can't be filled here, you may have to bring the allowable quantity of the actually medications until you can top up supply when you get here. There are some Customs and import details you may have to clear up.
When you get to Oz, set up a residential address (it could be your friend's or family's in Perth), find a local doctor. Maybe your relatives could advise you there.
Show the new Aust doctor your lists of ills and pills.
Keep track of the drugs required. The doctors here can get authorities for 3 month's supply for certain drugs, while others are more accessible and can also be supplied over 3 months. It depends on the medication, dosage and strength required.
I've been pursuing drugs all over Australia with prescriptions and authorities. No one has arrested me so far, and the medication I take don't affect my driving.
I've always driven like that.
That should get you started, but if you need more info, just ask.

Hello everyone, Laptop took a dive and I lost the site's details.
Fixed damp in 'van, checked out all the websites for info, well on the way.
Pound to Dollar is getting worse so, ironically it makes even more sense to take the 'van with us.
House in UK should be on market in next month, market's picking up so may sell soon then we are on our way (assuming there are no more volcano eruptions - dust all over the house playing havoc with my wife's breathing)
Not sure how we'll manage in Oz, don't care really, we will!
Really looking forward to meeting upwith our family again,
maybe see some of you guys on our travels
