Where do we buy?

Where do we buy the stickers that you put on the back of the van stating what channel you use?

Go to Bunnings.  They have a section that has individual letters and numbers in all sizes and you can just choose what you want.

That's where we got ours anyway.  Just stuck them on the back of the van. Probably most hardware stores would have them I suppose.

We had ours made at a signmakers when we had the van name and our names done, but have seen them in caravan accessory shops as well. (Ch. 18 only)

There is an 'OFF' switch on your UHF.

It has come in very handy a couple of times on our last trip.   Once it could have meant the difference between being safe and being dead.

Not all truckies are like that.    You will find the majority of them give you plenty of warning if they are coming up behind you and want to pass.

In all the 7000 odd kilometers we did we never had one bad truck driver.

The east coast is the worst for impatiant  truck drivers , how ever any where else if the are behind us we often call them up & call them around when all is clear , some times have a chat .This makes life easer for all & they appreciate it .

It always makes me laugh when I hear truckies, or the escorts referring to caravanners as "wobblies"

Crikey, have a look at road trains flicking into the gravel and tell me just who are the "wobblies"

Cheers Neil

Ok....reminder........and Davo will agree.......if your putting Ch 18 on your rig....put a name too..so the person calling will have a name to call...

but the thing to remember........you wont hear them..IF YOU DONT HAVE YOUR RADIO ON........HAVE IT ON!!!

We always had our UHF on Channel 18.  There was never anyone on it and when we called nobody answered.   Consequently couldn't check for any "hazzards".  So went to Channel 40.  At least you get a bit of a warning there from the trucks is anything is amiss up ahead.

If another van calls you on 40 at least you can then swap back to 18 if you want to have a chat.

Better safe than sorry.

I agree with Dave about the names on the back it saves a lot of "hey you in front"

and yes please turn it on! I'm sick of coming up behind "Bill & shirl, uhf 18" then to say hello and only being greeted with silence

the truckies really dont bother me that much although sometimes their chatter is funny, i dont hail them but I do listen in, the language gets more "colorfull" the further east you venture,

northern truckies are great, they will hail you and have a yak and warn you of any danger, radar, coppers or other trucks and they let you know when they are overtaking and apreciate you letting them know the last trailer has cleared your vehicle

what I dislike is the "convoy" of puddle jumpers warning the ones behind of every obstacle and deciding whether to get fuel, it would be okay but half an hour of dribble to decide whether the dead cat on the side of the road was male or female gets a wee bit much!

if you happen across some true "bushies" having a yak, be they c.ockies or travellers then they are well worth a listen just for their stories, dont butt in though you will be told in true "bushy" language to go away!

Hey guys , go to group scan, lock in 18 & 40 &  set to scan .
You now have both , it will lock into which ever has a signal .
Then if you need ch40 , just push the transmit button .
