As dave said, site is in a bit of turmoil but it is still the best forum on the net.
Lots of good information to be had from here.

While it's been a bit sad and disappointing to return to the Nomads and find some of the popular regulars have removed themselves, it has also been inspiring and encouraging to see new members.
While I'm just a contributing nomad, it's great to see you all here.
It's compulsory to have fun, and enjoy your stay.

Given yourself a Title have you?"Contributing Nomad". Let me remind you that I have spent many, many hours making sure that you are just capable of being a Contributing Nomad. With my holidaying Medical Partener,we studied, swotted, gave up our galavanting and gregarious free time, just to make sure that you would be able to compete in your favourite sport of Sky diving.Hey Granny good to see your smiling mush.Cheers.Ibbo.

Yes you have Ibbo, and I really and truly do appreciate yours and The Duck's efforts.
Diving from the sky is a wonderful experience, but it's that sudden stop at the bottom that spoils a jump. (don't touch it! - The line, I mean)
Now if you could just find a way for me to dive up into the sky I'd be there. I guess it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice, like my old Netball coach always insisted. He was a very wise adult of the time.
What has contributing got to do with diving? (don't touch that line either).

Smutty! Ibbo, the word you're looking for is smutty.
There's a bungy jumping set up here in Cairns. It's in a wonder setting in the rainforest, and a great spot to have a coffee or more.
As for bungy jumping, I'm not into practicing suicide from a great height. What would happen if I go good at it? It doesn't bear thinking about.
Now if I was to do that thing from underwater I'd be taking the risk of getting bent. (oh no you don't!) You wouldn't want me to get the bends now would you? I don't know where the nearest hyperbaric unit is in the area.

As a (very) new member I thought I should say Hi and thank you for the welcome.

My husband (wombatsruleok) and I are both  now members but he is currently still working full time and gets little time online so it will be mostly me doing the talking for now.
We live in Brisbane's western suburbs.

Hubby has been camping all his life, caravanning for the last 20 or so years.I came on the scene almost 13 years ago and admit I was more than  a little unsure of it; but we have just upgraded to a better van and I am now quite looking forward to really seeing Australia; previously we just took a couple of weeks holiday here and there when he could work it in with his business.

We are still trying to work out the retirement issues, he being almost 66 can apply for the pension but I am only 60, no longer working and can only apply for Newstart. The pension for someone who has a partner is not sufficient for 2 people to live on,and I am not sure how to best fit in what I believe is a compulsory 15 hours a week voluntary work if we are moving around and sometimes uncertain where we will be tomorrow, but we have an appointment with a retirement advice place  later this month.

D has 2 grandchildren whom we rarely see and I have 2 (boys) nearby and a little girl  about to make an appearance in a couple of weeks time.

I have been trying to catch up on all the previous posts and had my best laugh in a long time over one thread. Anyone hearing me would have thought I had gone nuts.

This is probably my longest post ever,I tend to read everything and not often post but wanted to come in and introduce myself.

Welcome from Lynne & Neil too Possum and to all the newcomers.

Congratulations Possum on the approaching birth of your 3rd child, a girl too.  I must say to my mind you are leaving it a bit late in life to be having kids, but, good luck with that evileye.  The Centrelink meeting will be interesting I think. biggrin

Cheers  Neil.

I thought it was hilarious.
I think that is what I like about this forum since I found it-the really fun way people post. I have recently moved from forums frequented by young mums(I had an internet business aimed at that group) and most of the chat is very catty and sometimes downright vicious,so this is a refreshing change.
However David says I have a big key poking out of my back, and I'm afraid sometimes I do have trouble knowing what is tongue-in-cheek and what isn't.

Robyn the little I have been around these damn forums only shows me that most are filled with folks who just love to create trouble and or to bignote themselves

I and many others try our damndest to keep the bull out of here, we are all on an equal footing in this one regardless of what some may say, one person one vote, that's it

you are more than welcome to join our clan and ask or tell or speak of anything that may be on your mind from grandkids to chook sheds we dont care

we are a travel forum first but the converstions seldom reflect that, we are folks having a yak!!

Well PLW, you'll fit right in here. Welcome to you.
Sometimes tongues are in cheeks and sometimes they're not, but I don't know where they are when they're not here.
Yes it's a great chatty community here, and certainly a special time of my day.
I spend a lot of time on this gadget, writing and communicating, and I really enjoy it.
Safe and happy retirement and travel when the time is right.
