help please - registration query

Hi all,
Please help us with this query - we can remember reading this somewhere but have been unable to find it in a search of the site.  cry
We are currently in Queensland and will be taking delivery of our van in May.  We will sell the house in June or July (hopefully) and go travelling Aus with no time limits.  biggrin
What happens when the registration of tug and tow comes up? Do we have to return to Queensland to register it? If we have no home address - what do we do about mail.  We may not have anyone in the country who can forward mail (other than Australia Post  :) ) so what happens then?
Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Barb & Darryl ..

Like you, I recently sold my home, and I am now permanently on the road as an itinerant .. (no fixed place of abode) ..

I'm fortunate to use on of my sons place as a forwarding address and also as a base for the registration of my onroad vehicles .. and for the purpose of the small amount of mail I might receive .. as yet, I don't have mail forwarded on to me but likely to do so in the future.

My vehicles are registered in NSW which probably differs to other states. Both vehicles are newly purchased and so will not need to be inspected (for registration purposes) for a few years at least. After that an inspection will likely be necessary but not necessarily in the home state, but by delegated authorities for that purpose ..

I'm sure that someone will provide you with more detailed information that relates to the state of Qld .. or others.

good luck  ..  it will all work out OK !

Jon

(Currently in Sapphire, Qld)

This question has been raised a couple of time recently. I know it was answered some time back and went searching for it. What a hopeless search engine, as I know I wrote on the subject and still could not find it.

Eitherway, you are lucky the rego is in Qld, as it can be renewed on the internet without inspection (for the time being anyhow). All you need is the rego notice and that has all the details on it for the internet. Not sure about a gas certificate for the van though.

No fixed abode is no problem, if required for any forms, just complete the address at which you stayed the previous night, ie 123, whatever drive, whereever: that may be the physical address of the caravan park. Perfectly legal and correct.

There are professional mail forwarding services, that charge, but if you have a relative, that may be the way to go.

I suggest though that you check your drivers licence for expiry. It cannot be renewed over the net, if a photo is required (every 5 years I believe)

Still trying to find the previous topic on this, as it did cover lots of things ie voting

Bob, try looking at your own profile & click on "member posts". When you wrote something it seems to be a good way to find it.

My vehicles are registered in WA with SA postal address - box number managed by my daughter.
The renewals arrive, I renew online.
Does Qld require a pit check every time you re-register? If not, you just get a postal service to redirect your mail. There are a couple of postal services which will provide this service for a fee.
There's always Aust Post redirection service, Let's Get Away, Whammo! Keeping You Posted, SOS Mail Solutions are a few.
Always more than one way to skin a cat.
Safe and happy travels to you and your mail.

Rosey, I tried that and there is some thing amiss. It only shows posts going back so far, not all, (and there are no additional pages to click on).

I now understand why it is quicker and easier to ask a fresh.

Mind you, we do not help ourselves. A topic may start out as "Faulty Battery" and the discussion will go from that to 'alfoil beanies' and possible 'the best tyres to fit'. It seem so natural for us to wander off topic, back, and then head off in an entirely different direction. So it is difficult to know under what topic the information being sort, may be.

Just as this post is doing. Maybe an alfoil beanie may help home me in to the information easier.
