RE: Wicked campers off the road

Unfortunately Wicked may have fallen victim to circumstances, but many vehicles on the road here in Cairns in particular, and in Qld in general leave a lot to be desired.
Some of the young, mainly European travellers arrive here in the park in a bomb they've purchased on their arrival to this country and carried on with their travels. Much worse than Wicked Campers, and no one has stuck a yellow sticker on the windscreen.
Most of the Wicked campers I have seen here are in good, albeit dirty, condition. They are usually returned here as the occupants board aircraft to return to their country of origin.
So to stick to the point, camper hiring companies have an obligation to ensure their customers are travelling in safe, road worthy vehicles, and the hirers should be able to expect a high standard of vehicle, even if they are on a budget.
Which brings me to the original concept of the Wicked Campers hire company. Budget, but that does not mean compromising on safety.
Good luck to Wicked, and all the other budget van hire companies out there.

This is one nation with seven lots of rules & regulations . how stupid is that when so much traffic traverses the entire nation. So whats good enough in one state is not in another.
One set of rules to simplify it all & problem would be solved I beleive transport trucks have a federal rego.
Yes ,NSW has anuall inspections.even box trailers if fitted with brakes .I have been in the motor trade for many yrs involving rego inspectoins .
Even with an anual inspection you would be amazed at some of the cars that are presented for inspection , would not pass on a down hill run with a tail wind .
Just imagine this kind of vehicle in a state where there is no anual inspection, this is what we are meeting every time we travell down the road .
How ever they can be pulled over & defected at any time but with out an obvious invitation how many highway patrols get to see the under side of a vehicle while travelling the highway .

Just think, one set of laws nation wide would also make it easy for the travellers to renewall regos etc ,instead of the run  around we have to do now .

Most accidents are caused by a nut holding the wheel .

Hooray! Someone sees my point about national standards and registrations. Thank you Just Cruisin'.
Why is NSW so "concientous" about safety, at the expense of the vehicle owner, when other states have less stringent rules and laws?
NSW motorists have a heavy price to pay to stay on the road.
People are so much more portable these days, as we Nomads know.
My vehicles are still registered in WA, even though I've been in Cairns for 18mths. I don't see a problem. The issue is the registration, not where. If we did our homework we'd all choose to register and the cheapest state. The other issue is revenue.
There are other issues which should have consistent national standards and laws - speed limits, fuel prices, tollways.
SA, NT & WA don't have tollways. Who collects the revenue? The Government? No! The private corporation which has the contract to collect the tolls. What percentage goes back to the Government for highway maintenance?
Why can we the humble motorist and tax payer see these issues and the "powers" don't want to?

They're still pulling into this park every day. While it's the "untourist" season, there is always a steady flow of happy campers.
I feel sorry for those without aircon at this time of the year, although it's been quite mild since the rain. The days a hot and a little bit humid, but the nights are cooler.
Things may heat up again as the monsoonal lows loom large.
