One of the tenants in my small block of units is moving away and has sold all his furniture to a friend. They came around today with a hire trailer to move the stuff and asked me to check on the security etc. of their loading and attachment to the car.
Immigrants from war torn counties and relatively uneducated in the vagaries of Australian rules and regulations, they are easily taken advantage of.
They were hired a 14 x 7ft. (approx.) single axle trailer with a wire cage: no brakes, broken tail light, dodgy bearings, improperly located number plate, no compliance plate and no indication of the weights of the trailer etc., a single safety chain (which may be legal if the trailer is under 750kg ATM), a bent axle, and a bodgy repair to the A frame which looks as if it was done in a heck of a hurry on the side of the road. All recently spray painted over (including the rego sticker) to make it look good.
They did not even go to the effort to show the driver the basics of trailer handling, and provided no written instructions of any kind.
I'll be ringing a mate of mine in the vehicles dept. in the morning. Shonky operators like this need to be taken down.
The car was a 5 y.o. Magna with an after market towbar that had neither compliance plate nor loading weights. Bought like that from a 'respectable' big name dealer.
Makes me ashamed to be an Aussie.

Yes Rolly I'd do that, report the Hirerererer that is... I't maybe ok to bend rules a bit if you know what you are doing, but when your a mug punter and someone takes advantage thats another matter entirely....
