Native fish for a pond....

I have searched far & wide, cant seem to find anyone who will sell me a few native cold water fish for my new pond with solar powered fountain that looks like small boy peeing....
I could buy goldfish I guess maybe I have to catch some perch or similar and put it in the pond....

Geez Basil... are you gonna put 'em under shelter in the winter? The water in our birdbath sometimes doesnt thaw for a week or more in June or July. Cant imagine too many little pondfish surviving that!

We took our water thingy out because of the water restrictions. Wish you luck!

Depends on how much water you got in your pond Basil    i breed yabbies and fish  throughout winter time here in Nowra  i used a 300w heater in 1000ltr  drums  it keep the water warm

Reza my man, how come you didn't tell us about the yabbies over morning tea the other day.

Couldn't have been because somehow you found out that I LOVE YABBIES could it?  Trying to preserve your stock from maurading Ma's.

Yeah DD, it's only about 40 minutes up the road, and he made the mistake of telling me how to get to his place, and because I eat all my carrots I can see in the dark.  So a midnight raid wouldn't be out of the question.............laughing.gif

It's pretty deep about 3' and I fill it from the rainwater.... I had a pond at my old place and the fish seemd to be ok in winter just not very active....

Yes I have nymphodia aka Waterlillies and will wait for some algal growth before the fish get indroduced, I could throw in some murrumbidgee water as a tonic I guess...

yep good advice reza, rainwater will kill them but the plants will fix the water up, I used to breed coy carp (the big ones that the japs pay thousands for) if you use rainwater then let it "age" for at least a month with plants before introducing fishies

Basil are you anywhere near a creek/river or dam, grab one of those "bait" traps and a bit of bread and go and catch the little mosquito fish that fequent these places, they are a great little pet and free
