It has been my concern that some inflamed comments made from time to time could tar all of us with the one brush , I believe grey nomads come from all types and some comments could cause hurt to some of our fellow grey nomads and tarnish our cause .

 Yes I'm sure it could happen but what would you suggest? Maybe we could have ingnored the remarks that caused this thread then the others of FB would have ignored us and all would have been as it was before. Agent's provocateur get their kicks out of getting a bite so if we don't bite they give up? Maybe some would but others have more front than Myers...

Jim I can assure you that many people have been prosecuted for making defamitory remarks on the net. It does to a degree involve the "seriousness" of the claim, whether jest was involved and whether the remark was in fact true, and as you point out the value to the media of the story; you cant be actioned for making a true remark and as I understand it it is the responsibility of the "victim" to prove the defamation... So I could call you a "crusty old bastard" and you would have to prove you were not. In the case of the RTA allegations that can get you in deep hot water if the RTA decide that they are game enough to litigate, that they are happy to have all their dirty laundry publically aired and that would be doubtfull as they may loose...
In NSW the ACCC handle all claims of corruption leveled at Gov't Departments anyway....
I agree and any discussion (serious) that promote any form of illegal activity can get you in hot water BUT someone with plenty of resourses has to do it, these things cost a Kings Ransom as they are civil matters so unless you are describing a criminal act commited by yourself you would be reasonably safe from prosecution. As an example the discussion on the 10 amp 15 amp business before you could be prosecuted successfully you would have to be caught in flagrante delicto ie in the act of making and selling, it is not a punishable offence to kill yourself through your own stupididty. Cutting the ends off a lead by an electrical inspector would be an interesting case because unless a complaint is made he/she would not have the authority to enter your premises without a warrant (being held high by a policeman) and tell me in Australia who is going to go to those lengths to cut the ends off an illegal lead? C'mon this is Australia there are too many big fish to fry to get a headline to worry about me calling you what ever I called you...
The other point I should make is that the webmistress is only liable in as much as she would have to provide under court order the contact details of the individual causing the trouble, the forum per see is not responsible for the actions of the combattants er I mean members...
The reality is that there is so much hype and absolute hubris floating around on fora such as this that it would take a century to wade through it and by then its like the Harbour Bridge you start again before you finish...

The webmistress should have and probably have a disclaimer written somewhere that as this is a public forum, then the opinions expressed by the members are not necessarily her opinions.

Don't take the words of one agitator too seriously. Nobody said anything that was that serious anyway.

I gave up using facebook to socialise on after only a couple of weeks of seeing how petty and small minded the whole thing has become.
Why would anyone want to claim as 'friends' people that they know almost nothing about and have never actually met?

Human behaviour can be such an illogical thing.

This forum could be converted to "Members Only" and we could keep out the dregs of society....If I were to set it up who would be interested?

Basil maybe a sub forum like the Solo forum that could be called let "have a beef" and members didnt want to take part they wouldn't go in there ,I think we need to kept the general forum open to help new member and attract people to our lifestyle

That idea has merit. I've PM'd you the ultimate solution.... 

it's still australia and we still have freedom of speech here, if we keep our posts truthfull regardless of content then nothing can be done

the webmaster is protected from it's content

in my case my post was truthfull and as we came back through Copley it was backed up yet again

we were acosted and abused by more drunken bloody blacks wanting cash for booze, which they already had far too much of, as if we didnt have enough on our plate

anywhere near copley, I suggest you keep going through

unfortunately those with little experience or knowledge of the subject will always shout the loudest

just as an afterthought for those among us that doubt we are a "worldwide" phenomenon if you click on "list all users" at the top of the page you will see the nations whose eyes are upon us!

if you place the little magnifying glass over the country it will tell you how many is in there watching us!!
