I have a message for you

the gal we came over to pick up has a couple words of thanks she wants passed on to you bludgers,

she just wishes to say thank you for all your kind words and thoughts in this difficult time

we picked her up at ten this morning, I just walked in to her room and said

"you always would do anything to get rid of the extra kilos wouldnt you gorgeous,  you look bloody fantastic, whats new?"

well you oughta seen her, waterworks everywhere, laughing and crying just wanted to hug me, wouldnt let me go, tried to jump out of bed

we had a cuppa and a yak with the nurses and quacks then I scooped her up and whacked her into her wheelchair and took her home, she wouldnt let the nurses touch her nor the orderleys wheel her down to the carpark, just me, we held hands all the way

we'll stay here for a couple of days and just rest then I will take her "home"

I thought it was a single masectomy but it was a double, so a bit more traumatic for her

just thought you may be interested

If we could get more people in the world to work with each other and not against, a lot of problems would be solved. (Prophetic aren't I)     confuse

she's much better today not so teary! we just sit and yak, about all sorts, I gotta keep the jokes down a bit though, shes got stitches from a/hole to breakfast time, I think she's torn a couple already thanks to me!

she said to me this morning as i brought her toast and cuppa in, "what am I now Dave, I have nipples but no breasts, my breeding apparatus is gone, I dont feel like a woman at all"

I looked at her and said..... "well, to tell you the truth, I dont feel like a woman either, bit early in the day for me, but you go right ahead, dont let me stop you"

I think I tore another one

I went and got a big mirror and stood it in front of us, I sat her up and said "what do you see"

she said "myself and a damn good freind"

I said ..."thats what we see when we look at you and dont you ever forget it, anything else is ****y poop"

I spoke to the quack just a while ago and we are right to take her home tomorrow, so we will see how she goes,

but she's on the mend, just the mental thing to get over now!, woman back home will be better equipped to deal with that than me!

we have a couple back home that have had masectomys so "been there, done that" the rest will just fuss and carry on which is just as good as any advice and the dragon has been great in advising her about the hysterectomy

Well Dave you have done it again.... From a bloke who supported a breast cancer sufferer the full mastectomy is the way to go but you don't know till they inject the die and see whats what. Statistically though mastectomies give an 80% chance of a 100% survival with less chance of a recurrence. SWMBO gets pissed off at times with the fake boobs, but now can sometimes see the funny side of it and tells people she has had a boob job...
None the less it's a  tragic outcome  for a female to loose their boobs but it's for the good of the soul and the body.
Your skills will come to the fore because the hardest part of the recovery is the mental one....

it's funny Basil I keep digging in to my bag of training but come up empty handed, I just fall back on what I have always done, just be myself, which is surprisingly close to a lot of my training anyway

the words that are drummed into me dont fit and sound pretty condescending in this instance, so I'm just here as Dave the joker, Dave the fool, Dave the fetch and carry man and Dave the shoulder to cry on, I take it as it comes

she gave me another hug last night as i put her back in bed and she said thanks, I said what for and she said for just being you

it must be a horrendous thing and by hell I dont know how I would handle it, you take everything away from a woman that makes her a woman and expect her to carry on, that's a load and half for anyone

what she must have thought at the tests, then the operation, then the result, she also had the hysterectomy at the same time, she's got stitches all the way from shoulders to below midriff, bloody cruel, not sure if I could have handled that!

we joke about the size that her boobs will end up as, we settled on double d's jokingly but realisticly she can now choose, so the dragon and her are up in the lounge looking at bloody boob sizes and shapes of all things, laughter is what heals

I hear laughter so all is good! me and her old man had a couple of drinks last night, he's not handling it too well but get him home with some of our boys and he will be fine

but as you say the alternative does not bear thinking about! this way life continues!

A little quip that cheered up a close friend of mine, who later became my wife:

"Titless, but far from witless."

It got her very concerned daughter giggling, too.

But the absence of the most obvious signs of her femininity still bugged her for many years, and possibly still does.

Apart from divesting herself of her breasts to save her life, some years later she divested herself of her husband to save her sanity.

Not all losses are such a bad thing.

Dave, from personal experience I can say that if her hubby doesnt give her any support now when she needs him most, she might not need him in future!

He might benefit from a few ideas on how he can be helpful, it seems blokes just hate to feel helpless!ashamed

Oh yes Rosey we do, it's nice to be needed for other than a wheelie bin pusher.... Blokes also go to pieces when this happens, it's a true test of ones manhood to be able to stand by your partner, wife, mother etc during something as drastic as this especially as the female hormones asways seem to kick in in times of stress and though we know the woman does not really mean the things she says it's hard coping.... Jeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz I remeber getting in real strife because I took home a bunch of flowers to help brighten her day and she had been reading garbage in the "No Idea" about how if your husband gives you flowers for no reason then he may be trying to cover an affair....

Goodonya Basil... at least you were home to take out the dreaded wheelie bin! And you made an effort with the flowers!smile  I'm sure with the benefit of hindsight your wife appreciates your thought.

Rosey it was tougher than Vietnam & I can understand why many many men simply can't hack it... I bought her flowers today as she sent me to ALDI for strawberry jam and Cream and they were near the check out and I thought they looked nice but I still got the 20 questions when I got home, why not simply accept the gift? I did not have sexual relations with that woman who you saw me kissing it was simply that she had to have her dog euthanased and needed a cuddle, kiss and grope to cheer her up.... Why can't women understand that blokes may think of every female as a potential "mate" that it's all talk and bluster & if we are going to have an affair that it's done discreetly 1 woman at a time unless we are diagnosed with "Woods" syndrome and because a bloke has sex it's just sex, the same as women nag, it's just naggingsmile

A bit deep for me Basil........but then what's new, lol !

I take my hat off for both you and Dave, you both show the true spirit of caring for the one you love the most.

We can make light of it but the old saying actions speak louder than words come to mind, but then your both good at words too !

well we are home, got home late last night, greeted in the driveway by "family" so she was imediately surrounded and taken, bit like an abduction really, so I hope they dont want the ransom paid soon

we men are sitting here in beer and buldust corner this morning having a coldie and just yakking, I know it's early but oh bugger it we need a talk, most of us have the experience of either a hysterectomy or masectomys or should I say having a loved one with experience so we are helping John out, and at the same time helping others as well

he is just overwhelmed and couldnt see any way of communication, we are yakking about it and telling him that all feelings are "normal",

he will be right now, just needed a yak with a mob of blokes who've "been there, done that"

Lynn is inside preparing to come out, all I hear is laughter and gaggling like a mob of old chooks so I assume they are fine

we'll have a barby and a few more coldies or cups of tea this arvo

Jock, velma and aggie will join the crew so I think John and Lynn will be just fine

once again Lynne asked me to pass on her thanks to you folks for just "thinking" of her, it all helps!

Hi Dave,
Good to hear that you have got them both back 'home' and in the tender care of loving friends.  Yakking is the best thing in the world for a lot of ailments.

Don't know where I would be if I couldn't talk with friends and family about my Meniere's disease and how it screws with my life.

Keep up the great work.
