A couple of years ago a mate and myself saw some ruins of an old farmhouse, out near Mount Ives Station......north of Kimba SA. We went in and had a look and the mate looked up the chimney and next thing he pulled out a small plastic bucket with a lid. Inside the lid was a note saying it was set up by this Geocaching mob and giving the map co-ordinates.

It was full of old buttons and little trinkets of various descriptions..............nothing of any value.......and the note said to take something and replace it with something else. I can't remember what we took but we replaced it with a 2 dollar coin.

This year we were back ther but the bucket was missing. So who knows??

We could perhaps get something going amonst us??

Tryed Geocaching Acouple of months ago localy some are just a GPS position to go to & find a container with stuf init & notes of who has been there & when. Others are multi point Eg you start in Edithburgh Cemetry & find Clan Ranald sailors graves & questions on dates, when put to gether give you the next GPS point to go to. Found it rather interesting it gets you involved with local history & interesting places & sights. Allwe were using was A GARMIN ETREX GPS probably the cheepestaround @ $125 & generaly got you within 3to4 Meters of what you was looking for. Will probably try it next trip. Cheers Daryl

We did it quite a bit a couple years ago. Have gone off it a bit lately though we still have a cache we set near home.

Basically someone hides a box, bag or some sort of container containing, as Duckie said, little trinkets of little value, small toys, key rings etc, they then post the co-ordinates on a web page then anyone can hunt for it.

As a prize for finding it they can take something from the cache, but must replace it with something of similar value or type.

The beauty of the game is that the 'setter' of the cache will usually put it in their local area that they know well, choosing a spot that a visitor may not otherwise visit. Some beautiful, interesting spots can be found this way.

Lots of people travelling will check the location of caches on their route, not only in Australia but international travellers as well, it is a worldwide hobby.

That's one of the websites KiwiAngler............there is also an Australian only site and that is the one that we found in the bucket. I'm sorry I can't remember it. I had a look when we got home but lost the details after that.

There was also a book to write your name and details in. We found it quite by accident and as we had no GPS we thought little more of it!!

I think some of the bigger 4wd clubs may get involved with their own??

If I were you, then I wouldn't join any four wheel drive club that would have you as a member.
