Well they are descending on Boxing day... Very particular about their food has to be bland , and capable of being served at a nanoseconds notice... So far I've made sausage rolls, easy peasy... Get thick snags and either fry or microwave them untill JUST cooked remove from the heat... Grab some puff pastry from the supermarket and thaw it, cut each sheet into 4 sq pieces. Cut the cooked snags lengthways.... For every sheet of pastry you therefore need 2 snags which makes 4 rolls. Now this is the difficult bit, lay your snag cut side up on the pastry and roll it over then roll onto the flat so that the overlap is underneath, place on a baking slide on some baking paper. For up market version brush the top with some lightley beaten egg. Cook for 15 mins @ 200c or untill golden, serve with lashings of tomatoe sauce but a more mature version is to serve with a small bowl of Worcestershire sauce to dip into.... Can be frozen... Now the fruit mince pies can be tricky and as I need a large quantity it's cheaper to make them. This year I changed tack and we are haveing Fruit mince triangles. Easy too grab some fruit mince in bottled form, I got mine from Aldi as it's cheap. More frozen Puff pastry; cut each sheet into 4, spoon of fruit mince in the centre of each square and fold diagonally, press the edges togeter with a fork. Prick the tops in a few spots, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle the tops with raw sugar, cook at around 200 c untill golden and the sugar has given them a nice glazed look.
Spinach and feta triangles (they hate these, "bloddy wog food") so I'm making dozens and dozens... Ok a bit more complex, 250 gms frozen spinach thawed and moisture squeezzed out. 50 gms fetta crumbled, 50 gms tasty shredded cheese, 2 tablespoons of parmesan, pinch of nut meg, 1 smallish onion chopped. Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl and then place in the centres of the squares of pastry, fold diagonally, do the fork thing along the edges and brush tops with beaten egg and cook at around 200c untill golden brown. These are scrumptious...
I don't know why I bother, they will just shove them in and demand more sauce... and then whinge because the food was either too hot, too cold, too spicy, wrong time, didn't like it etc etc.... never ever will they say Gee that was nice...

It certainly all sounds nice mate and oh so simple, I will be remembering them ones.
Anyway, shouldn't they all still be full from Xmas day?
You would think so.... alas the politics escape me. Morning tea is at 10:30 afternoon tea is at 3:30, no excuses. And another thing I've discovered about the aged they go into hyperdrive re their bowels. I remember a few years back trying to find a Doctor on Xmas day for FIL as he was wandering around telling everyone that he wanted to do a S@#t, found one and Dr gives him some Senocot... Yes Dave I have to keep my sense of humour at Xmas, this will be the last year I endure this though, next year I'm going to "go missing" around Xmas and have my own....

yep we "went missing" once a few years back, we shot up the murray for a "just us" chrissy we had crayfish and prawns and crab as well as schnapper and all cold meats for two
worst bloody xmas we ever had! just ended up missing our "family", ended up having another "xmas" when we got back just to make up for that one!
we often say oh bugger it, hawaii looks nice and one year we will do it, just pack up and spend chrissy on some island or other!
I loooooooove Xmas as well Dave. I like to sit with my daughter and do the menu in about September and keep adding to it, comes the day and we have a ball. It will come a day when I can no longer do it so I am going to enjoy it till that happens.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
I just sit back and enjoy the ride, the woman (god bless them) work their guts out to make the day go great, I serve as much as I can and just "do as I'm told"
the fetch and carry man, that's me, then I'm the "armchair" for all the kids when they get tired and grumpy, the tea and sympathy man, that's me!
I'm always amazed at just how things fall into place and how everyone brings something along to make a feast for all, absolutely amazing!
Christmas is fantastic.........when you have the right family!! Most of us do but sometimes the unfortunates like Basil don't and I can imagine it would be pure crap.
There are more family split ups and arguments at christmas than any other time because families are forced together, in a lot of cases.
I feel for you Basil.......I really do. I would hate to be walking around dreading what is supposed to be the best time of the year and dreading it for months in advance, whatsmore.
Nothing we can say will change anything other than if you need an alibi to the shooting, I'll swear you were here with me, all week. :)
Try to make the most of it.........at least the dog loves you......even if it is dumber than a duck.........so share a bone with her!!
As DaveO said.......think Toot Toot!!
Thanks for the recipes.....................Onya!!
