Hi Guys, I recently had a small GIZMO put into the Fuel Line in my Totota Hi-ace Camper-van. This thing has 6 small magnets in it, and is supposed to :
Prevent "pinging" when using unleaded petrol.
[It was originally invented so that the inventor could use unleaded petrol in a car that used leaded petrol, which he claims he did very successfully.]
Improve Diesel operation.
Improve unleaded petrol operation by balancing the electron flow of Hydrocarbons.
I'm not sure, but I think it's supposed to improve Fuel consumption slightly too.
All I know is, my vehicle seems to run smoother, and the gear changes are definitely smoother. [It's Auto.] The 2 words that were running through my head when I was driving home after the installation, were FLOATY, & SMOOTH.
I haven't been able to trial the Fuel consumption yet, but as soon as I do, I'll update this Post.
It is not expensive. $50.00 Fitted.
If you want to know more about it, ring Ted Ciesiolka, on 0749-348-159. The man is a retired engineer, and makes them himself at home.
All I know is I like the way the 'van runs now [ not that there was anything wrong with it before, but it just seems to "Float" along now] , and I'm glad I got it put in.
Cheers, xina.

Improve unleaded petrol operation by balancing the electron flow of Hydrocarbons.

This is a load of technical gobbledygook! The flow of air or hydrocarbon molecules is not in any way affected by magnetic fields.
I recall recently seeing some research somewhere that established that most of these "quick fix" gizmos don't work and these have been around since the earliest days of motoring. (I do not include genuine engine or computer modifications where there is valid independent research that establishes improved performance.)
Regarding the perception of improved running of your vehicle I've noticed that my car runs smoother after I've washed it!
As a mechanic the only thing I can think of that a magnet will do is remove any Iron filings which may have found there way into the fuel tank. Pinging is related to ignition timing fuel quality & load. Ordinary ULP in older motors can be a problem, either retard ignition or use Premium ULP the latter will definitly be an improvement. Late model vehicles Eg AU ford & on have an ignition timing controlled by a Knock sensor attached to the Block. This automaticly abjusts timing up to the point of pinging, for max fuel ecconomy & power no matter what the fuel quality. Cheers Daryl
yep sorry xina, my experience is aligned with that stated above, there is no independent reliable documentation supporting the alignment of molecules relevant to a magnetic field
R.A.A. reports state these do not work and in fact bring your fuel pump under greater strain (having to force the fuel under a greater pressure) so may in fact be detrimental to the performance of the engine components
if you have a pre 85 vehicle that relies on high octane fuel to stop "pinging" (detonation) please do not stop using this fuel as you can destroy your engine on one hill
a lot of gadgets out there with very wild claims, basically if it sounds too good to be true then unfortunately it usually is
Hi Guys, Thanks for caring, but as I said, I'm already happy with it. Even if I don't get better fuel consumption, I reckon the 'van IS running smoother. Ted is a friend of a very good friend of mine, who wouldn't do the wrong thing by me. My friend, and lots more of HIS friends use them.
Ted does not advertise them, [can't, as he sells them as a Hobbyist.] so all of his sales, are by word of mouth, which must say something.
Having rejected the idea of trying a number of other products that have been on the market for quite a while, I figured this one was worth the risk at that price, under those circumstances.
Will any of you believe me if I tell you I DO get more mileage? I seriously doubt it, but I said I would let you know after a trial,, and I will. Cheers, xina.

Disco the knocking is little men using sledge hammers on top of your pistons. Aparently all hell breaks loose if they manage to break through & they strike oil?????????????
Just because the maker 'believes' in it does not make it work.
EDIT: The ususl "trick" with these things is to improve some minor issue that was already there. This is usually pretty easy to do, especially with older vehicles. The vehicle runs better and the customer believes in the gadget. QED. It is just as easy to make the vehicle run rough again after the gadget is removed too.
Cheers Peter

please xina we are not knocking it just for knocking it's sake, snake oil salesmen have been around for eons, if you believe in the unit then by all means pay for it leave it on and be happy but do not under any circumstances cease using high octane fuel
this is better known as "premium unleaded" the older vehicles, pre 85, need the extra octane to stop the pinging, if you get pinging upon acceleration then the vehicle will not last long
the highest octane fuel is currently bp which is all I will use in little blue
please dont take the answers as a personal assault although some do border on that
obviously my answer on high octane fuel doesnt relate to your vehicle but I must always try to use a "generic" answer,
a lot of young players out there use an older model petrol powered van and are reading this thinking they can get away with a lower octane rated and thereby cheaper fuel
thanks xina, stay happy!!
the post is a good one, please keep it up! we value your input! Highly!
You got me rattled Xina .......I have to tell you.
I cannot grasp how a gizmo originally designed to stop the pinging in unleaded petrol motors will help a diesel. Why would you have fitted it to start with? Diesels don't ping. What was wrong with your motor for you to need to fit it?
I am not badgering you.......I am really just very curious as I am a diesel mechanic.
I guess the main thing is that you are happy with it so wether it works or doesn't work is irrelevant.
Your car........your money..........your happiness. !! Problem solved!! :) :)

ah you see we may very well be scoffing at something that may in fact work, who knows, newton was labelled a drongoe as well
I wonder what happened to the gizmo that pro hart designed/invented his was scoffed at but apparently did work! and has since disapeared
As well as Newton, Einstein, Darwin, and Galileo all copped a lot criticism (to put it mildly!) but all of these people went to extraordinary lengths to establish their theories and in all cases they have stood the test of time. There's no comparison with the purveyors of some of these gadgets. A more appropriate comparison would be with the alchemists of the medieval era.
Before anyone accuses me of being a "drongoe" I deny the charge.....despite overwhelming irrefutable evidence!

As I didn't get to see what I was getting before putting it in, I don't really know if there is any benefit for fuel consumption . A friend of mine is going to get one put in her car soon, so I'll be able to give you the results from her Vehicle.
I'll let you see what you think. I'm getting 100ks per 9 ltrs Diesel. Even if it hasn't made a difference to fuel consumption, I'm still glad I put it in, as I do believe she runs smoother.
