A real wildlife experience

Late yesterday arvo I took Gracie to Point Hutt for a swim and as there were some "unsavory" dogs at the official area we walked downstream about a Km to a really nice spot and were just sitting in the water and there is a bit of a splash next to us and it was a PLATYPUS!!!! a real live platypus. I've only ever seen one in the wild before. Scared the bejesus out of Gracie and she refused to go back in.

yep very easy to just sit and watch, it enthralls me eveytime when something elusive honors you with a glimpse!

I take me hat off to wildlife photographers who just sit for days to catch "that shot"

Intially when I realised what it was it was as surreal as a sexual encounter with Jenifer Hawkins i.e. I thought I was dreaming...

Yes Dave wildlife photographers; people like "Rafian"  http://www.rafian.com/ who sit camoflaged for ages waiting for the right moment to catch the creatures in their natural environment clearly are gifted...

I hope you have it medium rare, Disco, I hear it goes a bit stringy if you over cook it.
Tastes a bit like Koala, but not as chewie.

I don't know about this black pudding Ibbo.............I'm flat out keeping up with the echidna sausages. Garlic kippers would be okay though.

You still can't beat a good wallaby stew!!

I had the cat last week.............I'm lucky as we have no Chinese restaurants near us.

A good recipe for cooking a Galah:  Put a galah and a rock into a pot..........cook until the rock is soft. Then throw the galah out and eat the rock!!   (Some people use an old boot instead of the rock.......that depends on how affluent you are. I'm still wearing my old boots!!)

And now a word from our sponsor.
I'm still trying to get over the concept of kippers and black pudding.
Pommy black pudding is different to German black pudding I think. The German version is also called rice wurst.

Basil you're a lucky bugger behind honoured by a platypus. I've sat by rivers and creeks up on the tablelands for hours, and still no platypus. But I know they're in there somewhere.
A bit like tree kangaroos - very hard to find.
Obviously I've been wallowing in the wrong pond.

Chris, how on earth can you expect to see a platypus if you are Wallowing any where near a river or a creek.Platypie.platypussies,are very shy and wallowing is a definite no no.Tree climbing kangaroos are as rare as Bundy Drop Bears, but they are around.Cheers.Ibbo.

I just thought if I wallowed quietly, and sat very still, well maybe........
I reckon you've had the experience of a lifetime as far as playtpus spotting goes.

Every day is a new experience, but that one was special.

And my favourite bevvy is Bundy Red Label, but I'm yet to see a drop bear. Maybe I'm not drinking enough Bundy Red Label.
I might have another go a the Bundy once the potassium problem sorted. Alcohol and potassium aren't compatible. The potassium gets depleted fairly quickly.

As the potassium level drops..........so do the drop bears Granny. Pays to keep up the alcohol......not the potassium !!

On the subject of drop bears!   Many years ago a young lad working with us said he was going to ride his motorbike across from Perth to Adelaide.  I told him not to camp under any trees on the Nullabor as the drop bears would get him, by the time I had finished telling him all about the drop bears he had eyes the size of saucers.

A few days later he come into work in a car, on equiring where his bike was he said he had sold it as those bloody drop bears weren't going to get him on the Nullabor.  I still feel bad about it to this day.
