Received this in an email this morning, worth a try.
THIS DOES WORK !!!!
VICKS VAPORUB - INTERESTING.....................
During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks Vapo rub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapo rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprise, finding it to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.
My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it.
If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed at how it works.

Very interesting firefly. My mother used to put me to bed in times of colds etc with a liberal coating of Vicks on the chest. I used it for many years for clearing blocked nasal passages. Great stuff.
Terro.

no just a very dim and distant memory from my childhood, my fathers shed, what a glorious thought
he had all sorts of tools, only hand as there were few power tools back then, mainly black and decker or sher, I remember the string of washers (nothing was thrown away as it all would have a use "one day") the wire "string" of washers would have been 3 feet long if laid out straight and contained hundreds if not thousnads of washers, would have took a month of sundays to get the one that was needed
there was a matching one of nuts
but I digress, (one of those days)
on my fathers bench there were "cards" about 6" long by 3" wide, next to the bakelite wireless, never knew where they come from or where they went to after his death
anyway on these cards were pictures and sayings, i remember one with a picture of a female nut and an obviously male bolt chasing her and she saying "no, no, no, not without a washer"
another had a queen in bed with with a knight with "once a king always a king but once a knights enough"
another had a couple in bed with a pained expression on both faces with the male holding a jar and stating "OH MY GORD, VICK'S"
didnt need to be a comic genius back then, it was all explained, good times
Hi l'm a great beleiver in vicks on the soles of the feet. Our girls are 31 and 32 and used it from the time they were small. Just make sure that you wear sox to bed to keep the warmth in. People often comment that it's an old wives tale but l say "don't knock it till you try it". I find that it doesn't smell as strong as it used to years ago.....Pauline
Talking of old times........can you still buy the old blue bags...used in laundrys....I rem.My Mum grabbing for one when I got stung on foot by a bee.......??
