caravan registration advice

Could anyone please advise me about renewing a NSW registered caravan in QLD. Do Qld mechanics give out pink slips that can be used for NSW registration?
Also as we are traveling/living in our van so what method do you other grey nomads use to get the van to a mechanic.. ie: do you unhitch it & go wandering for a few hours or do they inspect them while hitched? also do all mechanics inspect caravans? We will be staying in a little caravan park in Moore Park near Bundaburg during the time so I hope there is one not too far away.

QLD does not have the annual inspection as in NSW.

check with QLD roads about the pink slip as to whether they can do one .

In NSW the van needes to be attatched to a tow vehicle as to be able to check

lights , brakes etc..

Not so long ago I had the same little problem.First you need a safety certificate fom a Qld inspection source, not all inspection people inspect caravans so you have to shop around for one. Then you will need a gas certificate if your van has gas fittings etc.All this costs money and there is always a little extra to pay for any"Faults"that seem to appear. Then of course you take all the certificate etc to a Qld transport office, hand in your nsw plates.Pay the rego fee and away you go a little lighter in the pocket.I did not register my van in Qld.Came back to Nsw,had an inspection at the local servo.Cost me to register the van,the inspection certificate fee only.Being a pensioner it was a big surprise.Hope this helps you.Cheers.Ibbo.PS.This was my experience things may have changed in the last year or so.

As has been said, Qld does not have annual inspections, but are done on transfer of ownership or  changeover of rego from interstate. So there are fewer outlets to get inspections done.

Inspections done in Qld have no validity in NSW (???? mechanics different ???).

If you intend on travelling full time, I suggest you register your vehicles in states that do not require annual inspections. Then it is a simple matter of doing it on the internet.

That is not always possible, so plan your travel around the rego in your home state.

I may be the bearer of bad news but I do not belive you can renew registration for a NSW vehicle in any other state than NSW as the paperwork is done electronically. Check them out here; http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/index.html

It may be a simple matter to phone them on their phone nos 132213 or

Sounds common sense to me so why in the ACT does a caravan rego test only involve ensureing the VIN/Chassis No. is correct?

We are very safety conscious in the ACT, as long as the fee is paid the Van is safe to roll....
