Hear! Hear! They play pirates holding our Customs vessel to ransom while they make their demands to stay in Oz. Meanwhile they pour bottled water over the side (TV news yesterday), and we have to feed and accommodate them while they're on board the Customs vessel, refusing, refusing to leave! They have no right to refuse to leave.
Piracy is an international crime.
Pay Srilanka? I don't think so. They should pay us for the expenses incurred in looking after their people while we extricate them from our boat, our islands, our shores and our detention centres.
Send the illegal immigrants back where they came from. They're illegal.
They pay a lot of money to con their way over here in leadky boats, so they are definitely refugees.
Send the b...ds home!

Yep, I agree here. We Aussies need and expect a strong leader.

I have had enough of his teams, soft c0ck ways. We just survived a global financial crisis and this weak leader gives more of our money away, while raising the retirement age.

Not long now before they can be removed.

No matter which party governs, they only make short term policies for the term of their government.
I can't remember when a party made a long term policy in the best interests of this nation, with the endorsement of the opposition, and not just the party.
They all seem to want to change the policies for change sake, but not always in everyone's best interest.
Meanwhile the weak and depleted opposition wastes all its time disagreeing with the government instead of building up its strengths to present and strong, united front at the next election.
Little boys playing big boys games.
I'm glad our forefathers had a bigger picture in mind when they settled this country.

I would just like to know where that $35 mill ends up over there. I would suggest some leader of the government has just won lotto, Swiss bank account here it comes........
Ever notice that the criminals get everything, have all the rights under the sun & they are innocent until proven guilty - then be a motorist driving down the road 8 ks over the limit, you have no rights, you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent. Sorry, my pet hate, Tax collectors with radar guns, dressed as Police officers.
The money thats spent to ping motorists speeding, red light camera's & parking. Still cannot walk around the City of Melbourne after dark and feel safe - no money, no plan, no revenue in it.....
I sit in my car while a copper fines me $100 plus dollars & 1 point while on the radio I hear the boat people hold our ship to ransom, we feed them, cower to their every need & then we send $35 mill to another country to stop them from coming over, no wonder the Government wants my money........ I feel better now that I know I'm doing my civic duty & helping to repay that large amount. I feel truely AUSTRALIAN....

still dont see why we dont just patrol a sub out there with weapon capability and sink a few, make up our own "pirates" what do you reckon Basil arrrrrr!!

What I can't understand is why we are leaving our ship anchored in Indonesia, costing us so much money, when for the same price we could just sail the thing back to Colombo and get rid of them at home. I am sure if they are real refugees their own government would be only too happy to get them back??

Biggles........With a bit of luck some of that money will be grabbed by some corrupt Sri Lankan politician and then we may have a chance to get some back through one of the internet scams like the Nigerian scams. :)

I'm still pushing for the revolution folks!!

I feel another FFT coming on.... Ok so can someone answer this; If these people can pay so much to try and get into the country by deceit and deception to these alleged people smugglers how can they possibly be penniless refugees to start with? Why not simply buy an airline ticket and claim assylum at the airport?

I think a tougher stance is needed at the baseline, Paying Sri Lanka to take it's own citizens back simply means that Sri lanka will say wow what a deal and will set up a quango in Columbo making boats to send people in so that they can reap the rewards, strewth the Sri Lankan Govt will be calling for vollunteers for Free ocean cruises....

Basically the problem in a nutshell is that good old Christian Free Australia is trying to deal honourably with corrupt Military dictatorships and the only way we seem to be able to deal with them is when in Rome do as the Romans do and offer bribes, which are eagerly accepted and the anti is upped on the next occasion....

There must be a solution, maybe we should not be so vigilant in our patrols maybe let them land then they would be invading and could be dealt with that way.
Just worries me that GENUINE refugees are going without because we can't cope with the illegal ones....

Goes to prove as we are saying more and more often and with more and more feeling......our Governments that we have elected are P**s-Weak!!

They need to start displaying some "Cajones" or else we will be walked over.....it's starting to happen now.

Why should we pay anyone to control their own citizens?? Beats the hell out of me.!! And what are we actually paying the money for.....................?? What will $35 mill get us from them?

I notice that Alex the refugee spokesperson on board the ship has admitted to a criminal past. He was deported from canada for serious gang related crimes.
Given the above there is no way he would be allowed to enter the country legally so why should we let him in via the back door.

As for the rest of them i think the Australian goverment should declare that area a
"live firing range" and those that choose to ignore the warning do so at their own peril.

Where did the so called Govt get all that money so suddenly?
The politicians social club slush fund?
Maybe they privatised something else, or it was the change left over from Telstra.
It's such a pity they didn't feel the need to re-invest it in the country and the people they are supposed to govern.

We all know the penalties for smuggling drugs in or out of most asiain countries.Some people might think they are pretty harsh but they do seem to be effective.Imagine the flood of drugs into our country if the asians relaxed their laws or didn't carry out any penalities metted out.

Rules are Rules......................stick to them or pay the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
