18 years worth.

DSC05925.JPG

The black line indicates the country we have  travelled in the last 18yrs .

It's only the last two yrs that time has been our own.

The QLD /NT sections have been done several times .

Will  be doing much more in the future .

PS> All done in the same car.

Cheers.smile

Looks to me like you passed your Grey Nomad apprenticeship at the head of the class. Lots of good travel there.

I bet there are lots of good memories and some tales to tell.

Sure is; 20 yr ago we looked at how many were not getting to do it ,so we started early.

Like many i am now off on a disability  due to serious back injury.

Much of this was done on annual leave ,just went hard every year .

WA last year & VIC & some QLD this year.

I wanted to do as much as possible while i can .

We are still doing it.

I can relate to what you're saying about getting as much done as you can, while you can.
That's my philosophy too.
I've done some of those trips, and a few different ones. It's great to look back and see where you've been.
I bet you've noticed a lot of changes in the country, the towns and the roads in that time.
Some of my first trips were on dirt, but now all sealed. Makes travel easier, but somehow takes some of the adventure out of it. Thanks for the memories.

Jim, I have attempted something similar with a "tourist" map but it doesn't look as good as yours. Where did you source the map. I have looked but can't find a suitable publication. Needless to say I am suitably envious at the result you have produced and would love to emulate it!!!!

Looks good Justcruisin Jim...............some great memories tied up in those black lines.

I've got the map....................just have to fill in the lines now. I'm missing the Cape York line.

We want to do the Canning too. Can't wait.!!

Thanks for that Jim.

Reading this forum today has had me up & down.
1st we are spending $35mill on stopping the boat people - down & angry.
2nd Dave06 did his wonderful deed for the lady driver - up & happy.
3rd Justcruisin01 shows me his tour map, I look at my map - blank !! not only that but I dont own a bl**dy black texta yet...........
Think I might need to give " Beyond Blue " a ring soon as I'm now depressed.
Do people realize to mark that much texta on the map before Mr plod takes my licence off me, I'm going to cover this country at warp speed, so if you see a caravan going past you at a great rate of knots, with 3 police cars in tow, just give me a wave & wish me Gods speed.

I was depressed last night Biggles..............Big time!!

I rang a help line.......... I got a call centre in Afghanistan.

I told them I was feeling suicidal and they got all excited and asked me if I could drive a truck.

Terry, its a Gregorys 13th edition, as old as some of the trips.

Can't remember  where i got it ,possibily news agent or book shop.

I had it laminated & glued to a board .

Its approx 1200 x 900m .

Mounted on the back of the shed door ,& yep ,you got it

every time i open the shed i see it .

Just keep adding a bit each year.

I've got one of these hanging up on my "office" wall at home , nothing like sitting at the computer reliving the trps and seeing where there is a white space left yet to go.

I have camps 5 and the gps but it doesnt help much when the daydreaming bug bights hard

mate we started when we first got our licences, I worked mines all over the joint, western australia, northern territory, top end of south aust, little bit of qld, chasing the big machines and the big money, the wife used to be head cook at a lot of the camps,

from the camps we've seen most of central and western aussy, well a drop really, theres a heap we havent seen, my motto has always been if you wait til tomorrow it will never come

we havent seen much of the east coast but we will remedy that as soon as time allows

we've been lucky to have the mining companies pay us to see most of this fantastic land, absolutely marvelous

you are one smart cookie to have done it before the injuries got you, there is a lot out there that wait until it's too bloody late,

I keep banging on about getting out and seeing aus and I will reinforce it again, you blokes that are waiting for retirement get out and see it now, tomorrow you may be in a wheelchair or worse,

time and tide
