Goodrich All Terrains seem to do it all. The tread is big for sand and mud - worked for me. The walls are thicker to protect against staking as much as possible. I'm very happy with the ride, and I am not aware of any road noise. I've had all-terrains on the cruiser for more than 30,000kms in 4 years and they barely show it. Worth every dollar.

I use the same tyres as Granny does. The BF Goodrich A/T's
It is a very good wearing tyre with lots of grip as an all rounder. Most people that use them get at least 80,000 k's out of them and the sidewalls are one ply thicker than the normal all rounders as they are classed a light truck tyre
I have them on a Discovery 2 and do get a fair bit of road noise from them. It is the only downside.
I would like to try the Pirelli Scorpion AT/S but they don't come in the light truck tyre configuration and that is not much good to me as I go off road a lot.
I am constantly warned against using Coopers as they are supposed to have a lot of problems? but I don't know..........I think they are okay for black-top work.

There has been an awful lot of discussion on many forums on this subject.
For reliability and value it seems to come down to a choice between B.F. Goodrich A/T and Bridgestone Duellers, when considering general purpose tyres.
Doinsiston the LT (light truck) versions if you intend to go onto rougher roads and/or carry a full load in the car.

Tyres !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in the same process at the moment , had bf A/T goodrich on ,started off ok but the two rear faild at 30k .two weeks into lap around the block last year .Was not impressed ,further more Mt Isa had no stock , they had been six weeks & still waiting .
It was a warrenty claim so they supplied two BF M/T .[mud terrain] shocking combination , when loaded and uneven surface just can't keep it on the road I will be glad to see them go .
The most complained about tyre on the road last year was the coopers ,they were suffering a lot of side wall damage , also very hard to claim on ,this was also stated by tyre dealers.
I'm am currently looking at the Micky Thompson [Dick Cepic] FC-11 .
Very similiar tread to the BF A/T . they are a 60/40 [black top /dirt].
Just put in Micky thompson tyres & you can see them ,cheeper than bf .
also look at the bf goodrich site ,read the complaints.
Bridgestone Aust. has gone bust as well .

What happens when the A/T's "fail"? I've done more than 30,000kms, should I be worried? Most of the time on black top, but I have done a few dirt kms as well. I chose them because of the reputation at the time I put them on, and because I thought they'd suit everything I needed to do with my truck.
Are the Micky Thompson's ok for all surfaces? Black top, mud and sand? What's your experience.

Hi Granny, The first tyre developed air bubbles in the side wall near the bead area, it ment the inner layer of sealing rubber had faild alowing air into the case .
The second one had a steel belt failer which lets the tyre bulge in the centre ,inturn wears through very quickleyexposing the belt & blowes out. I spotted this one while stopped ,tryed to move to a suitable place to change it ,didn;t go two hundred mtrs.
Like you i went on reputation also , I think in their day yhey were ok but now they are old tecnology .
Go to the BF Goodrich site & have a read .Also the micky thompson site , tyres,FC_11 check report by Ron Moon .
I knew him years ago before he started tours & wrighting ,he was in the Tamworth 4x4 club.
I have spoken to several tyre dealers ,all spoke highly of these .
I will be fitting a set in the next couple of weeks.
There are several styles available , the FC-11 is very similiar to the BF A/T .
they are a 60/40 tyre ,hwy/dirt .

Thanks heaps James. Forewarned is forearmed. I keep a close watch on them and rotate them about every 10,000kms. Hopefully I'll cut some trouble off at the pass. It sounds like Thompsons are the way to go. I'll do some reading. Cheers
