Remember

Today is an historic date

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason should ever be forgot.

Good old Guy Fawkes. He could have saved us from many elections!!!!!! How many would that be since 1605?

We used to remember but not any more. Must be something to do with fireworks being dangerous. I used to get very excited as a child on "Bonfire" night. A good time to get rid of the rubbish, for all the neighbours too. Saved filling the landfill sites! Don't worry about the pollution into the atmosphere or the burns and lost eyes from misfiring fireworks. All part of the fun!

Terro

Hey Terro, what about Mischief Night on the 4th nov.Bungers in letter boxes newspapers in drain pipes sounding like a jet engine when lit, pinching other mobs Bonfire material.Spuds cooked in their jackets until they were black with charcoal, chestnuts,Catherine wheels, rockets, sparklers,Roman Candles, smell of singed clothing and hair. The morning after Bonfire night spent looking for fireworks that did't"Go Off".Cheers.Ibbo.

My grandmother wore a hearing aid - well, for church and when we had visitors anyway.
The rest of us grew up yelling.
She went through dozens of AA batteries during the year, and also lots of C size batteries for her torch.
On "cracker night" we kids loved to throw them into the bonfire and hear the "pop".

Gone but not forgotten Ibbo. Well it will stay with our generation at least. We live in "safer" times now. Give an OOOOOH and an AAAAAAAH for the lost times.

I reckon you would have been a right little mongrel when you were a kid Ibbo. The terror of the neighbourhood. Don't even try to deny it either. Cheers Ducky!

That was the only problem with being brought up in the bush..............I missed all those opportunities to harass the multitude.

Thanks everyone.  And yes I had a great day.  Went out to the end of The Strand here in Townsville to the Rock Pool Restaurant and share a huge seafood platter with my other half.  Washed down with a couple of light brown ales, sea breeze on the verandah...........now what more could a gal want.

I'll keep you to that one Chris.  See you soon.

Thanks again everyone.

Elaine (Ma)
