Rolly, although I know, sad but true that this happens. I would like to think that a "True Aussie" would NEVER behave in this manner! I know - I am the eternal optimist - but let's hope that the values we hold true will prevail. And No, I was not born in this country, reborn maybe, but this is the country of my children and grandchildren... let's try and promote the positive. Morag
I can neither see the picture or read the script. It comes up as a tiny picture smaller than a postage stamp.
I'm just cranky with Krudd housing and feeding the illegal immigrants anywhere, not just Christmas Island. Now we're paying the Indonesians to house and feed them. And the illegal immigrants are complaining about their treatment, being influcted on our behalf, by the Indonesians. They went on a hunger strike on the Customs vessel because they couldn't get their own way. Who the hell is the travel agent telling these middle-east runaways that Australia is the place to have a holiday of a lifetime, and get paid to stay here in a cheap house. They spend a couple of weeks on a leaky boat, having spent thousands of dollars in "fares", get dumped off at Ashmore Reef, while the leaky boat heads back for another load.
Then they take to our streets and demand we do it their way, and behave as if they're immune from our laws in the name of "religion".
I'll put the soap box away now.

It is with some sorrow that I have to inform you that we do have people here in Oz that like to self harm. The difference is that here we have a system that helps them and we don't see it on the streets. Of course it costs us a fortune but , hey, thats what we pay taxes for isn't it? Unfortunately it would appear that as we get more diverse cultures entering our homeland we will see more of it.What is the answer? I'm sure I don' know. Hopefully minds "superior" to mine are working on it but I'm not holding my breath.

As an immigrant myself; a ten pound tourist who had his fare paid by a government grateful for his education and intellect that the local population was unable or unwilling to provide, I take great exception to this "real Aussie" culture.
Real Aussie culture has been decimated and suppressed ever since the arrival of the colonising British in 1788.
Real Australians are of generally dark complexion.
The pale skinned inhabitants are the scions of repressive and murderous invaders.
People like myself are taking maximum advantage of the death and destruction that went on before our arrival.
Historical fact.
Now let's try to get on making the world a better place for everyone, and stop sneering at others with this "holier than thou" attitude.
Australia is a great place, but there are a hell of a lot of so-called "real Aussies" who I would love to see removed by some kind of inter-galactic garbage collector.
Motorcycle gang members would be a worthy starting point.

Woohoo.............!! The soapboxes are out!! That is why we have the forums........................ so the Grey Nomad members can express their opinions. Just because they don't happen to agree with the opinions of some others, there is no need to start another site or indeed suppress or limit those opinions to please anyone else. After all..................opinions are like backsides ................we all have one and they probably all stink. I too am an immigrant to this country but I have made my very best attempt to fit into the culture, learn the ways of this country and indeed contribute to Australia. Unlike some???
It was good enough for Australia to accept me so I joined the R.A.N to serve and if necessary protect. I am grateful to Australia and appreciate what the country had done for me
It has so far enabled me to meet a lovely woman, raise some great kids and enjoy a lifestyle that would be unheard of in so many countries. This includes free travel around this whole great countryside. Free of visas and taxes etc.
Australia owes me nothing and I didn't come here in the belief that the country should be grateful to me for coming here.
Anyone unhappy with "Advance Australia" should quietly leave!! (in my opinion! ) :)

If everyone came to Oz with the attitude of the post-war immigrants, who happily integrated and worked their butts off to make their way in this country, we would have a virtual paradise. Australia couldn't have done what we have in the past 50 years without them. I met many of them as a child when they came to work on the family farm from Woodside Army Camp to pick up spuds. I loved riding in the back of the ute with them. So loving and keen to learn. This is the "Aussie Culture". Freedom of speech, religion and lifestyle. Let's keep it that way, even here on the Nomads Forum.
I do apologise for the "political outburst", but the picture I couldn't see just set my tiny mind into overdrive. I'll do my best to curb or kerb my enthusiasm from now on.
