Hi, I'm new at this. Intend to give some info on my profile - not sure if this is where I do it !? If not, perhaps someone can give me some help. Status: On my own Age: Just past retirement Dog: A Sheltie History: Had Avan until recently which I took Half way around Australia 2 years ago. Just sold it and now have a Toyota Hi-ace Campervan. Haven't been anywhere in it yet but intend to soon, and hopefully a trip up east coast of Australia for next winter (Live in Tassie, and want to get away for the colder months !) Is there anyone out there who lives in Tasmania? and Is Camp 5 the latest 'guru' on cheap and free camp sites? What does 'attach poll' mean?

Oh Pauline, my heart aches when I think of my Sheltie. Decided not to take him along. Had him from a pup for 2-yrs and I got him after my 11-yr old Sheltie died. He went to a good home in Canownindra NSW. I'm still in my Avan. Now if I'd kept him and you kept your Avan, what would the chances have been? And yes, Camps 5 is a traveller's bible. Hi Pauline! I have a HiAce, the hi top sort. Been travelling on and off in it for last 5 - nearly 6 now, years! Started out from Gippsland, spend time between trips in Darwin now, not bad for some one who hates the humidity, give me cold any day! But I have a mate up here who is not doing it too good these days so I always come back to help him out a bit. I have 2 Whippets - Clancy and Connor the new pup on the block, my dear old Labbie has decided my mate is more his speed than I am and has adopted Bob!
Enjoy your travels, Hi Aces are great as they are so easy to drive/park etc and no setting up once you find a good spot either!

Hello Annie Sounds like you have fun with your little dogs - they're great company aren't they? Don't know about the mainland but Tas Caravan Parks are beginning to go anti-dog and not allowed so much as previously. The way I see it is if they they can't take my 'Tina' then they don't have me!! Hi Pauline, I haven't been anywhere camping for a month or so, but I wouldn't let cold weather stop me. I went to Victoria at the end of June, and it was freezing down there. I slept in my Hi-ace as warm as toast . All you need is proper bedding, and a Chihuahua or two. Cheers, xina.

I don't travel with any live pets, but there is my "stuffed" dog Dozer - he sleeps all the time and doesn't move anything.
The parks are wary about dogs because of the less responsible pet owners who don't pick up after their companions, and don't train them not to yap. Believe me, some of those lovely little fur balls yap their tails off when the owners are out of sight of the van and the pet is left in the van. If someone complains about the mess or the yap they become very protective of their companion, and very defensive about their rights. So all you responsible companion owners suffer the consequences of the behaviour of others, as everything else in life is. The good suffer from the bad behaviour of others. The best I've seen was a portable plastic pen around the awning perimeter with 2 Maltese Terriers happily playing around, fed and watered in the shade. If the owners left camp and left them home the pets were tied up on long leads within the "pen". In an ideal world I would travel with a dog, but it's just not practical when I mostly stay in parks. Have fun in your wizz-bang when you get going.
