Saftey Standards a Farce

Few posts back I raised the safety concerns on the Great Wall Ute imported from China having as an optional  feature  air bags and ABS . Last night on the news a report on the the NRMA came up with a safety report that showed that even with the airbags and ABS the best it could do was a rating of 2,  a bloody pram has that rating.  Makes you think why we feel compelled to  spend money on reducing speed limits to walking pace just to piss off the motorist and increase carbon emissions and call it a safety measure

The best safety measure is the brain.
When it runs out of commonsense, courtesy and patience it all comes crashing down.
As I always say, the put their hands on the wheel, their foot on the pedal and the brain goes to neutral.
No airbags and safety equipment will save anyone if the speed and conditions aren't taken into account in the driving process.

In China you don't need air bags - simple. So why would you bother about the rest of the world?

May not be the driver of the ute without all the standard safety feature  we demand on OZ made vehicles  that causes the accident, he/she could be the  end result of  others bad driving habits .

I agree, you will never stop accidents or deaths on the roads with safety features  but with those little added features the severity can be diminished dramatically costing us all  a lot less in the long run .   Much rather blow the resin dust off a face than spend hours removing the steering wheel  out of a face or chest.

All I want to see is a development of safety standards not a return to the free for all like we had back in the 80's  when everything was optional including the radio

All those safety features have been proved to save lives, especially in the event of a hoon causing the crash. Just recently a young teenage boy in a car full of teenagers was killed in a prang, and he was the only one not wearing a seat belt.
These features seem to save more lives than they lose. But at least bring them up to a standard which is uniform for all vehicles by all manufacturers.

Why don't other countries insist on all these safety features?
Is it because they don't have the long distance highways we have, or do they have tighter speed limits, or what is it?
I haven't done the study, but I bet one of you guys can give me a few clues.
Let's just do our best to keep it safe, and drive defensively. It works. Watch out for the other idiots.

Speaking of traffic accidents has anyone noticed that the number of rear enders at GREEN traffic light has dropped to ZERO in Sydney since MIL has stopped driving????
