can anyone tell me the time difference melbourne-byron bay 1: hume/pacific VS newell hwy. and any tricky driving over the mountains using the newell highway.
and using the newell can you easily cross the mountains to port macquarie.?
I can't help you with the information but I have found that most of the motoring people like RACV and NRMA have a site where you can go and put in your details and they actually tell you how long it will take.
If you decide to come up the Princes Highway from Melbourne be sure and let us know and you can call in for a cuppa.

Middle of January this year on our way to the gold coast, Bendigo heading to the gold coast, Newell hwy to Tamworth for ther music festival,(plenty of room) on to Armidale , Glen Innnes, Tenterfield, over the mountain to Casino, Lismore, and Byron Bay , and on to Tweed heads where we had a unit, All good road with plenty of places to view and stopover, , a lot of freebies if you have your free camps book, we still only have No 1, Over the ranges its a bit twisty and narrow but heading west get the passenger ready with camera, lots of pic oppotunity, Dragging the van, with the Patrol was easy and relaxing all the way, once you are in Victoria travel is easy as on there good roads and clear signage
Haha Davo Can u imagine how us superior Vics feel having to put up with N.S.W on one side and u S.Aians on the other trying to hold us back. Lead on Vics the rest might catch up one day hehe
hi chris. the hume pacific is 200k shorter but you do have to go through the outskirts of sydney And the pacific is a lot busier so the time frame would probably be the same. the only mountainous road is the the one to port macquarie down through walcha and is very bendy I prefer to go up it rather than down i dont like that hanging on the edge feeling but no different to all the roads that lead from inland to the nsw south coast. I think they did upgrades last year but not sure what. At least its not that long that you have to getting down the mountain and its very pretty on that road. We usually go Albury to Wagga, dubbo and up that way and do the mountain to Port Macquarie its my original home town. chezo
