Welcome DnA to the Grey Nomads forum.
There are a couple of 4WD courses out of Perth, and these may incorporate towing.
It's not really all that scary, once your confidence gets up. But as we all do, you have to start somewhere.
I tow a 20ft van, but I developed my towing ability while working on a cattle station in the Kimberleys when I towed a large dual axle trailer to Derby on the stores run, and I have towed a horse float, with a horse in it.
All the best to you with your towing, and eventually the experience will be enjoyable.
You just have to drive as carefully as you know how, according to conditions, and allow for the other jerk's stupidity. Safe and happy travels. Cheers Chris

hey deb, welcome to the forum, I am not sure as to where you would find a towing course, I know a lot of larger caravan sales places have them

have you tried the R.A.A. or the equivelent in your state, I, as chris did, developed my skills over many years and many mistakes, as chris has made and then name another thousand persons who did and are doing the same mistakes as we all made, never be afraid of making mistakes, we learn from them

it can be very daunting to have this dirty big thing chasing after you (I dont mean your husband, the caravan, please try and stay focussed) and it is of course a new sensation not necesarily good but very rewarding all the same

take a look in the yellow pages under "driving instruction" or similar and perhaps there may be something in there

Thanks Chris, I reckon you are unreal in what you have done and are doing!!

Hubby and I are bloody useless compared to you.

I guess that comes from being to 'office bound' over the years - city slickers is what we are.

But I can tell you we are way over it - and cannot wait to get out of the city.

Because of our background we were thinking that maybe it was safer for us to do our travels with a tent...hahaha

We have looked at the 30 second tent - but now I have done some reading on this site and feel a little more confident that maybe we could tow.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the suggestions - great idea - I will contact the RAC here in Perth - they do all our insurance at the moment - dont know why I didnt think about that.

Andrew and I are really at the infant stage of getting organised - as I was saying to Chris - we are so over the city life - me in particular - just had my 50th in May and not that I am feeling over the hill or anything..hahah...but I guess it makes you think about life in general and what you want to do with what is left - if that makes sense.

We would love to go work on the road for a while - but as we come from office backgrounds - I dont know if there is that much out there in the way of work - having said that though we are really simple people - and would do just about anything - so I we want to investigate the opportunities to work and travel.

This is a great forum and plenty of friendly people on here that much I can tell.

So I hope you guys dont mind me picking you brains some of the time - but I will be sure to research the archives before hand ::}}

No one is useless, we've all just had different experiences which has given us different skills, including life skills. It's just what life hands out to us as we go and we learn from it.Practice is the best way to get the feel of towing. Do you have friends with trailers who could give you a hand? Check out thr RAC and a couple 4WD clubs who do training sessions.
No rush, but planning is good, eh? Keep up the planning and it will all come together when the time is right and you're ready. All the best and safe travels. Cheers Chris
