RE: What do we want? Why do we want it? Why do we do it? How do we do it?

Just had my van done at the local mech who is an authorized inspection station.

As said by others, when interstate you should be able to go to one of the motoring associations in that state and have it inspected at their facility , after all that's one of their official functions to ensure vehicles are road worthy.

Isn't the national licence scheme applied to heavy vehicle operators now , I have a class HC with DG and road train endorsements but it's issued in NSW, haven't done interstate runs in a long long time so not sure what the go is

If the CMCA are a powerful lobby with local governments (to date caravans are not eligible for membership) but in the interests of ALL nomads what a powerfull voice they would have if combined with the CCIA (caravan and camping industry association)....ah politics again.....

wombat.    have a look at your licence,      isued by the nsw, rta.   if there was a national licence, it should be issued by the federal govt.    there is no federal database on truck licences.     if you get booked for a traffic offence, its the rta that prosecutes you.       just another furfy from the politicians.

The CCIA only represents the Industry, not the consumers

If I get enough response then I collate the numbers and contact the park and tell them we have an internet group called UMU that wants to have a meet up in their park with approx numbers.
This is just a suggestion to throw around if there are members interested in doing this.

Vic

We are The Grey Nomads. Do we have to become UMU's to meet?  No we don't.  I've met members around the place, and I hope to meet many more.  If a gathering was planned it surely would be under the auspices of The Grey Nomads.
A new Post Subject could be initiated, but anything we do as a group of travellers should be as Grey Nomads.
I really enjoy the informal, informative format of this site, and I enjoy the freedom of expression it provides.  I don't think we have to put ourselves into labelled boxes to participate.  We are The Grey Nomads.  Cheers Chris

Chris,

This was just an item for this thread.

The reason why you could not call it the Grey Nomads if you had a rally or meet up is because they (the site) would be responsible for any public liability, that is the reason why the Caravanners Forum do not accept any responsibility whatsoever for any rally meet up organised by their members and will not accept any rally meet up using the CF name. If CF members want to organise an informal meet rally amongst themselves then that if fine but they cannot call it a CF rally for a number of reasons, not the least of which is legal liability.

Unless GN members are prepared to pay a fee for public liability, for someone to collect monies to cover this liability and the administration/postage etc, register the group as a club (assuming that Cindy would allow that and I am sure she wouldn't want to be financially responsible for that action) then you couldn't call it a Grey Nomads Rally or Meet Up. However, as I thought I had already explained in my earlier post, there is nothing to stop members organising and holding an unofficial meet up or get together amongst GN members, without using the site name Grey Nomads.

There is a lot more to using the GN name for this purpose than meets the eye, believe me.  I use the term "Meetups" as a term for unofficial meetups of a group, rather than a few individuals.   For information only, there is a world wide "Meetup" site for unofficial groups that use this term as well, google meetups or for those who are interested who want to look at the link, see;

Then surely its about time for the drivers who need it to do something a bit more aggressive , stop paying for the fees, distribute leaflets, lobby their polly, its already been mentioned on this forum several times, maybe its also on the forum of the CMCA and other associations,
I have no idea how to start something like this going, but if its been needed for years why , how come it nowhere on any agenda

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My heavy Vic license takes me around the country with any vehicle that I drive, and I choose to register all my vehicles with Victoria because they are cheaper than others
So I see no reason to change
A friend of mine stayed in a CP in Sth Australia for a fortnight just to get an address so he could register his Mobile home there , lower cost than Qld and cheaper per year by a long margin over the Qld cost
Why not do that Bob, no more pit checks

cruising granny.                you are beeing a bit naive
about these licences, do you really think the state govts are going to give up this revenue.       they have tried to create a national licence for truck drivers for years. (it will never happen )    the states cant even agree about a scheme,on the 3 months licence residency requirement.

Not naive, optomistic.
It only takes the right proposal in the right ear in the right sector and who knows where it could lead.
If we give up on everything that looks too hard we might as well stay in bed.
One layer of government should be abolished anyway, so if the rego and licensing went national, without the state governments, job done.
Not naive, optomistic.  Cheers Chris

you say.  " optimistic."   i say dreaming.     if someone here has a magic wand or can whisper into the right ear of god you might get somewhere.          can you just imagine the politicians getting there back up  (a)  about there loss of power.     ( b) and there loss of revenue.    chris i am right with you about we should be able to do something.           but this isnt the road to go down, there are just to many obstructions.       political and legal.             if there is one thing i have learnt in my life, its if you take on the entrenched system.      you either have to have millions of dollars or a lot of political clout.       ken
