Patronising Posts

Apparently CG thinks my posts are patronising, although my posts are directed more at people new to RV'ing rather than those who are experienced.  Many new people would not know where to look for information or do not have Camps4/5.  See CG's comments;

"Vic, it would appear you have far too much time on your hands, or you doubt the wisdom of your fellow nomads to research this sort of information for themselves, much of which is on the internet.
While your help is always appreciated, I'm beginning to feel quite inadequate about my own investigation and research skills.
The Camps 4/5 book has all this information available.
Take care and relax. Cheers Chris"

In view of this, I am going to take a back seat and leave thread and posts up to others, I do not wish to be seen as ruining a good forum or spoiling it for others.  I will remain a member but only to read others threads/posts etc.

Regards
Vic

I have never found your posts patronising Vic, I don't have a Camps 4/5 so I like to pick other people's brains, I have always found your posts very helpful.  Don't go come in and have your say. Hugs Monica

I've only been here for five minutes but my humble advice is not to jump ship just because your thoughts dont suit everybody, forums like these will always have the odd quibble

study your post and if it sounds patronising then fix it, if it dont, then dont fix it

rule no 1, always speak whats on your mind and dont try to please everybody, news flash for you, you wont please all the people all the time, keep the majority happy and you are on a winner at the same time all opinions are valued

in the same breath chris has all the right in the world to state what she thinks is correct, dont do a dummy spit, take it on the chin and move on

I've been reading Daves posts and oh boy some of the things he said would make me cry or laugh or both at the same time and sometimes angry, but by hell he is intriguing reading and almost always supportive, if we could all take a page from that then I think the forum and the world would be a little bit better place in which to reside

leave the bitching to others

Vic, please don't go. All opinions are valuable. I have expressed robust opinions on this and other forums and attracted a certain amount of feedback. Fair enough. I have broad shoulders and a thick hide.
Anyway, surely we're all big boys and girls now.
Finally, it would be a pity to lose someone brave enough to have your avatar!
Cheers, Tony

I'll make this my last post on this subject, then take a back seat for awhile, to be honest I haven't felt too good making posts here as my name kept popping up all the time and I felt sometime it appeared I was hogging the site and I had to restrain myself from making replies to some posts.

Granny's comments were made on the Dump points post, don't know whether she feels threatened by my thread and posts, but it would seem so. If she had any concerns she could have sent me a private message but she preferred to go public with her comments.

This is not a "dummy spit" I have been around long enough to be able to take things in my stride and have a thick skin and I never bow to anyone, but perhaps there is an element of truth in Granny's comments so am not condemning her, except I wish she had contacted me personally.

I am not leaving the site, but will have a "rest" from posting for awhile to allow the site to get back on track.  I may add that I received an pm and email from Cindy (Webmaster) recently thanking me for helping out on the forum.

Vic, mate I think this is right out of hand, frankly I think maybe your skin is thinning with age. Everyone has an opinion they are like toungues, everyone has them.
By taking a sebbatical now you are being a bit selfish, who else has the fortitude to bring up the topics you do? We are all mature adults here (well most of us) we all have an opinion and we all have to respect the rights of each other to each others opinions both individually or severally.
I'll get a complex all the astute correspondents seem to be leaving, first Dave, then Rolly, now you.....

Hi Vic, I thought the subject of disposing of our human waste was an interesting topic; it resulted in me finding out about a new and cheaper product to use in our toilet cassette. Funny how it's ok to tell smutty jokes, discuss politics etc, but not "potty" issues.  I have found most posts interesting, and occasionally we learn something new, isn't that what this forum is all about.
Please stay!! Can't let Basil think he's not wanted as well; see you soon again Dave, miss your posts!!
Cheers Colleen

vic we have currently 1,131 members registered

given that you had 1 repeat ONE complaint then I really dont see a problem with your post

the idea as I see it of the forum is to inform and or entertain each other

I see no reason why you would not continue posting unless you are indeed a sook.

if Basil or Dave took your line then I doubt very much that the forum would have got off the ground in the first place

pick up your bottom lip and excercise the fingers, still a lot of people out there that dont know much about travelling, inform them,

you have mine and a lot of others support, even if I have to enrage you to do so, call me what you wish just keep on plodding

Vic, I apologise if I offended you or anyone else.
Maybe you are taking things a little too seriously.
This forum is brilliant as a source of shared information.  We share experiences, we share tips and advice, and we share the site.
Everyone is most certainly entitled to their opinion, and are free to express it.
We all do it.  We can't be popular with everyone all the time.
Your intentions to share and advise are well-meant, and very useful.
Maybe it's me who has the thin skin.
My comment was meant to be taken lightly.  Maybe that's what is missing - a sense of humour on my part.
Don't go.  Don't even lie low for a while.

One of my mottos of life is, "Never underestimate the intelligence of others, no matter where they are in life".

Keep smiling Vic.  Cheers Chris

Ya know, I get the $***s from time to time with posts like those that knock politicans in general & our current Federal Govt in particular.  In those cases I often write a scathing reply in word & don't  post it until I have read it the next day ... In most cases I consign the reply to its rightful place, the WPB and don't go back to the 'offending' post.

I didn't always do this & can recall disagreeing with your hero Dave06 on non technical things.  I even found it necessary to retract one particular post where I used red & capitals to emphasize a point  ... for clarification of course!   Some of the old timers might remember.

Sometimes on the first read of a post, I think that the 'criticism or adverse comment' is directed at me personally.  On later more careful reading I usually find that this is not the case.
For example .... When I first scanned  Humpy's response I was a bit taken back by the 'pick up your bottom lip' -  'unless  you are indeed a sook' etc. comments.  On closer reading I found full agreement with the message that Vic41's contributions are valuable.

My message to you Vic41 is that it would be a pitty if you were to withdraw.  I find your contributions to be of value & add to the richness of the forum.

Not the way to go Vic.

Grannie has the right to be acerbic as much as you have the right to try to assist the uninitiated.

We all occasionally forget that what we take for granted as common knowledge is to some the very depths of occult mystery.

Granny's expertise is apparently in journalism, where she has learned to research for herself the ins and outs of whatever it is that is exercising her mind.
For others, the very thought of having to unscramble the intricate mess of information and misinformation that is the internet, is confronting in the extreme.

More often than not, stating the "bleedin' obvious" is exactly what is needed.

So keep at it in exactly the same old way.

Please.

Hey Vic. let it be and keep posting.
I said on another thread that 'we all know something that others don't and we have all forgotten something that others can remember.' i have learnt a lot from this forum and thank everyone for that.
The beauty of this site is everyone is so friendly and willing to give assistance when needed.
Much like sitting around a campfire having happy hour, we all throw in our two bob's worth and discuss things. We don't run off and google search or pull out the camp 5 or encyclopedia, it's called conversation and leads us into other discussions and topics, and don't we all love it.
Many of us need someone else to lead the topics and get us started and you,my friend, are one of those.
Keep posting (i need to fill up my "favorites' folder.)

Johnw

Crikey, I will have to pay attention to this forum a bit more, had to go back to the source and find out what it was all about,
Vic, You must be sitting there reading this with a smile on your mug, at all of us who are asking you to to continue posting,
Voltaire said , I disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it, now what would this place be without a little stoush,(fight) ( being an illerate pom tell me how to spell it ), you do it your way mate, and to hell with what others think, whether continuing posting or having a spell,
And Granney you be as aserbic as you wish, I enjoy reading the comment from it and having a giggle

Vic I enjoy reading yours and everyone elses letters, but I think you are taking things a bit too much to heart. If you contribute you have to be prepared for others to maybe disagree with your view, and thats good it certainly makes for a more interesting forum. If you decide noy to contribute it will be your loss as well as ours....Time to build a bridge and get over it Keith

conversation, in the real world, is a two way street, if we were all sitting around a fire somewhere then grannys comment would not have raised an eyebrow

in here some people tend to "mull over" a reply to such a stage as to take offense to that remark whether the reply was aimed to hurt or not

in this case the reply has been taken right out of context and expanded to such a stage that the menial reply has attained biblical proportions

I suggest we just continue doing what we love to do and just continue "talking"

dont read into posts or replys that which is not there in the first place

put the rhino hide back on and continue yakking, grannys reply was in no way offensive

Hmmmm....ok, I have taken all points on board including the good and not so good, thanks to you all for your input, I have also accepted a PM apology sent to me by Granny which was appreciated. I will take a lesser role ( read as I intend to do less postings) on the site now though.

What this site needs to have is one or two moderators (other than the Webmaster Cindy who is too busy with other matters), all other forums I have been on have them and as you know they act as an adjudicator on site differences and misunderstandings between members if things come to that, and if someone is just plain out of control they they block them from the site or give them a week or so's holiday to cool off (ok, I've had mine). I am not interested in being a moderator myself but if anyone is perhaps they should contact Cindy as ask to be made one.  This could be shown on there signature or in a fixed thread at the top of the foum.  It is no good having "unofficial" moderators, they need to be appointed by the Webmaster.

Now I would like to put this behind me and get on with it (and no more posts/pm's on this subject please),

Many Thanks,
Vic

I reckon we're pretty good at self-moderating.
If we get out of hand or offensive the Webmaster closes the topic. The rest of the time we keep each other in check. Just keep an open mind at all times.
Surely we are mature and wise enough to participate without offending.
The joy of this forum is the freedom to express. It's also good for a laugh most times.
Take what you want and leave the rest. Cheers Chris

We can't be all that bad at self moderating.  If I am scanning correctly on this site the last time a topic was locked was back on page 27.  Been a lot of water under the bridge since then.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Either that or Cindy hasn't had the time to do it and some that may have needed it slipped through the net.   But take your point,

Vic

cindy has a life outside of the forum and should not need to keep checking up all the time, the keyword here is respect people, respect for others and yourself, the forum does not need an empowered biased member to lord it over all others
