This one is for the Ladies out there.

Can anyone tell me of an easy way of making single beds in the van ...the beds are  not as wide as normal single beds and there is quite a lot of excess sheet that needs tucking in. My back is almost broken when I have finished making the beds.I have beautiful white cotton sheets and don't want to cut them up to make them smaller.

The reason the sheets are so wide for your bed, are the same as for single swags, as both have similar requirements.

They are made to be able to stay in place to accomodate "two bums high". Do not be caught short.

ps I did say this to a sales lady when purchasing a swag - Q "what size do you need" Answer "two bums wide and two high", should have seen the look on her face - priceless

That's one of the reasons I have a double island bed.
I've slept in the single bed up against the wall, and it's not my favourite place.
Besides, I never know when I may need to share the other side of my double bed. No, I'm not on the prowl, but someday somone may book in to share, who knows.
I have a covered camp stretcher if I have a "house guest".
The only other suggestion is to get the mattress/bed raised to avoid the awkward bend. Use single fitted sheet and tuck the surplus under the mattress. If you don't want to use a top sheet, just use a single continental quilt (doona).
Good luck with that. Cheers Chris

That's all very well Wombat, but as you know, some of us are not on a holiday, we're on a lifestyle, and some of us are house-proud on or off holidays.  The van always looks neater and cleaner if the bed is made.  Doona or sheets, it's all relative.I find it interesting the blokes have the most to say, without actually addressing the forum subject. ie making a single bed in a caravan (or anywhere else for that matter). Those single beds are at the worst possible level creating the most awkward bend when trying to make them.  Then you have to lean over to tuck the bedding in against the walls. While "flying solo" is not my preferred option, it's my only option if I want to travel now, while I am able. If I was to wait for a room mate, it could be a very long wait, wasting valuable travel time.
As Escape has already stated, her other half doesn't want to travel, so she goes it alone. So no help with bed making there. Probably not at home either. Now he gets the house and the bed to himself while Escape gets out there and does it her way. You go girl!
By the way, I don't have carpet for the annexe, nor do I use a table cloth unless it's a very, very special occasion. After all, this is my home.
Cheers Chris

Simple solution, Get 2 large single sleeping bags and roll them out at night and in the morning before the camp commandant does the rounds roll them up and you are ready for inspection. Have to get LARGE sleeping bags though.

It's also hard making the queen bed in a camper trailer. you are too far up from the floor to reach across the bed so I have to crawl around in circles to make the thing !!

It sounds like I have the best option - double island bed I can walk around to make, access the cupboards, and even the floor when I CLEAN.
It's still a good life. Cheers Chris

The easiest way to make your bed is for the two of you to do it together.  I must be lucky because Bob always helps me, I get at the foot of the bed and he gets at the head of the bed and we work together.  It is quick and easy.  He tucks in the top and half the sides I tuck in the bottom and half the bottom sides. Of course with the hi ace van it is a bit more awkward as there is not a lot of room.

We also use doonas, one double one each.  I found Bob always pinched most of the blankets and wrapped them around him, as he feels the cold.  Now with each of us having our own doona neither of us goes cold.

Hmmmm........I know this was a question for the ladies, but it looks like us blokes have got into the act as well, so I may as well join them.

When I make the singles (now and then), I slide the matress half way off the end of the bed and to the side of the bed and make it this way, easy to tuck everything in etc (bottom sheet fitted - using standard single bed sheets from Target), then just push the matress back on the bed and a little tuck here and there for any bits that have come adrift.

Did here of someone who stood there single matress up on its end and made it that way, then plonked it back on the base, but don't know how they did that without everything falling off?

We have doonas underneath the fitted sheet for extra softness and one on top of the top sheet, also a couple of those cotton hospital type blankets if needed for extra warmth.

I hear you with that one Pam. Bieng vertically challenged (4ft 9 & 3/4) my husband laughs like billyo when I am making the camper bed. biggrin That is why I insisted on a queen Island bed in the Van. aww We still have the camper trailer but I just leave the bed making to him when we use that now.

I also saw the stall at the Brissy Caravan & Camping show with the linen made to order. Great idea and they were doing a roaring trade!

Cheers
Ellen

Guru if Ma ever used one of these it would be more than your mind being boggled. Just shows how much time I waste on the net.....Ok sit down, grab your Privates and wince....
It's the latest device to deter Date Rape via drink spiking. Ok for those of you with a wowserish disposition read no further:
The male having spiked the drink of the female gets her back to his lair and throughly arroused by the sight of a stunned female mounts her and is trapped by the barbs on this thing which the advertising material assures us "Can only be removed by a medical proffesional".....  Ladies please don't try using one of these, I suspect under Our Laws they would be illegal anyway.
I guess it's a solution to a nasty problem but surely there are other ways of preventing this.
