The Hariss Park "Troubles"

When is someone going to line up the protagonists on both sides and tell them to realise they are not in India or Lebanon but are in AUSTRALIA and give them the opportunity to behave as Australians or go back from whence they came and take there racial intolerance with them. Mind you the trouble makers were all born here.
Very sad situation when 1 race decides that a Sydney Surburb should be exclusivley inhabited by that race and the Gov't does nothing to enlighten them.

We are still a free country, aren't we?
People come to Australia to be free of the political hardships in their own country, don't they?

And then they battle their home country's political hardships out on the streets of our country.

Are we true Australians, no matter where we come from, within our rights to tell them to get out and go back home, from which they fled to be free in the first place?

It's the young people who are shaming their elders who came to Australia to be free.
What a shame!

Fully agree but this has been the situation since WW2 . Even the estate agents culture the racial trend when selling your home . My mother in law lived in the Sydney burbs and when it was time to sell up and move north she was told that had she been three streets over the same dwelling was worth 5 - 10 thousand more as the Vietnamese had set up a community on the other side of the canal. They even showed her the demographic predictions, Lebanese here Vietnamese there Turks over there and on it went all mapped out like a battle plan for the future .

The only group who have fitted into Australia and kept there racial troubles to themselves are the Italians along with the Greeks to a lesser extent.

Maybe there needs to be bigger penalties handed out for racial unrest and anti social behavior on all sides rather than just a night in the cells for those who the coppers want to can catch.

I think it is about time a tougher stand was taken with this issue it is about time these people realise what a great country they have been allowed into and not try to shange it to their way. let us keep our culture alive and well. Helena.

This is a very emotive issue and I feel sorry for those that have come here to have a better life and try to do the right thing irrespective of their backgrounds. We do have some outstanding citizens from all countries who do fit in and do there best to be good ozzies who are not part of the enclaves that feel they have the right to set up their own "countries and culture" as though they have the right to and look down on those who have been here for yonks and whose forefathers fought for this country to make it the best place on earth to live in. If those who don't want to be Ozzies in the true sense and fit in, then they should be exported back to where they come from. Those that do should be applauded.

We had a case here recently in WA of a family of Middle Eastern origins (including the dress for their women in their country of origin) where the husband returned from overseas with swine flu. They were living in a State provided home in an inner city suburb that they had been given (jumping the waiting list) because they had eight children. They were ordered not to leave the home because of the swine flu, however the wife was seen by the press who had arrived outside the house to interview them driving a passenger van out of the driveway, when the press tried to talk to her she wound the window down, lifted her veil and spat at them as she sped off. Now that's gratitude for you.

Funny, years ago I was renting at Cabramatta around 1962 when it was more or less a Greek suburb, not the case today though, almost exclusively Vietnamese. I would just like to emphasize that we have some great citizens from most overseas countries that are good people and are deserving of Ozzie citizenship, others that shouldn't be here. Sometimes we get a few Ozzies I wish we could export too, ha ha.

Yes vic , we do have some great people who have come here and want to be Aussies, pity some of there kids born here don't feel the same . You have to ask where do they get that hatred for another nation from , surely it isn't the parents passing down the village history of centuries ago. They really need to get over it and move on or move out . Protesting in the streets over what has happened in the old country , most of whom have never been there, should qualify them for a free taxpayer funded ticket from Qantas back to wherever they wish to go and fight for the misguided caused just don't involve others in their cause

Hi Folks ..

I'm in agreeance with you .. and I see four main cirumstances as being most responsible for a lot of our current problems and not just Hariss Park.

.. these are not in any priority   >>

Parental Responsibilities: .. of the parents .. and also those taken away from the Parents by our own Governments

Migration: .. an over-abundance of New Australians at times when we can least afford it. Lack of infra-structure and supporting fascilities seems only to be recognised after the fact.

Multi-National or Multi-Cultural: .. Regardless of where one comes from, a persons culture will forever be part of their life and rightfully so .. It's part of ones heritage !
Claims of Australia being a Multi-Cultural society is not true, as failure to assimilate effectively between different cultures is only happening at a minute level .. apportioning blame will not solve the problem .. leading by example will !

Australia is battling .. unless Oz is able to move away from being a Multi-National society, I feel the battle will continue ..

Reality in Sentencing: .. a smack on the hand is no deterrant against future criminal activities. Policing is frustrating when the courts lack the 'balls' .. what else would you expect though from guys that wear 'wigs' ..

NB: .. these are my own opinions .. further to that, I wasn't born in Australia either, but I love it to death ..

We have many migrants and the children of some migrants who are high achievers, for instance have a look at our top surgeons and others in the health industry, and don't stop there, look at other occupations as well. I may add that these seem to be mainly Asiatic (as in Chinese/Vietnamese/Indian desecent) who seem to fit into the Oz lifestyle a lot easier than some other ethnic groups who do not seem to have the desire to fit in at all, just take advantage of the benefits of living here without giving anything back to society.

Notwithstanding the above, I think the days of the round eyed, white, causcasian Ozzie are long gone, the mix today of loyal Ozzies are many and varied. Saw a funny incident at a Coles store a few weeks ago, a well know old racist woman was in the store abusing one of the employees with dark skin and obviously of Indian descent, telling him he was taking Australian jobs and to go back to his own country. He replied to her that he was an Ozzie and was born here! Shut the old bird right up ! lol!

I have no time for these migrant groups that are hell bent on bringing their cultural wars here and trying to undermine and destroy what was our peaceful and beautiful way of life with their pathetic quarrels and disturbances and I think it is time that the government started to be more selective on who and who they don't let into the country.

I amazes me that pollies of all parties in power just foist these people on us and the first thing we know about it is when we see them in the streets. Of course, it is highly unlikely that they live in the same suburbs as the power brokers, so it is no skin off their noses.
