delayed

Hi everyone, We have had to delay our trip due to an illness in the family so will be leaving around August we were going to Darwin but now unsure as we have no idea of what the weather will be like there at that time of the year si it wise to leave Darwin and just go to the second hlf of our trip which was Queensland. Helena.

Hi Helena,
Darwin in August is lovely.  Weather still cool for the locals but about 25 - 32 for the visitors.  The 'build-up' and the change to the weather pattern starts in October.  Rains will start in earnest late Nov to early Dec.

Gday Helena We live in darwin and aggree with Barb &daz. this year is a little warmer than some of our dry,s but is still great. Don't know where you are coming from or what interests you but we cater for allmost everyone. van parks at this time of the year can (to us)be pricey but i don't know what they cost down the track these days. From driving around we can see that some of the parks are starting to fill up.hapens every year. If you do come this way and want to contact us please do.No promises but we may be able to help with a parking place if you are interrested

Hi all ..
Darwin .. yes ! .. One of the places thats a high piority on my agenda once I'm on the road. My memories of Darwin are from the 'pre-Tracy' era.
After working at the Stuart Arms in the Alice as a yardsman, I travelled with a barmaid from there, to go work in the 'Don' hotel in Darwin .. this lead me in turn to a Bar position at the 'Seabreeze' hotel outside of town ..

Memories of Darwin are etched from those melancholic days .. so I'm keen to see the 'new' Darwin .. I don't feel that I will recognise any familiarity with the past, but I'll enjoy treading some of the old paths ..

Jon

For a start Jon, Palmerston is no longer a country town south of Darwin, it's a suburb.
I first went to Darwin on a prawn trawler in '76, 18 mths after Tracy. The Casuarina Hospital was a hole in the ground, and they were pouring the footings. The shopping centre was a couple of shops and a very small supermarket, on the outskirts of Darwin proper.
I was a patient in the old hospital.
The southern entrance suburb was Berrimah. We spent a lot of time at the Don and Darwin Hotels "meeting" locals - that was our excuse anyway.
Not any more!
There is a great marina, while the jetty has been transformed into retaurants and cafe's. The Darwin Hotel has been flattened, as was the original Darwin Hospital.
Some of the changes are a bit big, but it provides more services with more people. That's progress. Cheers Chris
