Also, netiquette rules below from a book on Net Etiquette by Virgina Shea, which I think everybody should keep in mind especially where newbies are concerned, you don't want people going elsewhere because they were made to feel unwelcome.  Everybody has the same rights on a forum which is not the domain of a selected few and they are entitled to their opinion the same as anyone else;

Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes

"Everyone was a network newbie once. And not everyone has had the benefit of reading this book. So when someone makes a mistake -- whether it's a spelling error or a spelling flame, a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer -- be kind about it. If it's a minor error, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before reacting. Having good manners yourself doesn't give you license to correct everyone else.

If you do decide to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely, and preferably by private email rather than in public. Give people the benefit of the doubt; assume they just don't know any better. And never be arrogant or self-righteous about it. Just as it's a law of nature that spelling flames always contain spelling errors, notes pointing out Netiquette violations are often examples of poor Netiquette."

Thanks for that.
I'd much rather read an interesting, poorly written forum, than to pick out the eyes (or "I's) of the content.
It's all about information quality, entertainment and friendship, albeit with fellow nomads who may be complete strangers, with travel and the GN forum in common.
We're all friends here, I hope.
Nit picking spelling and grammer defeats the purpose of the forum.
Etiquette or netiquette - it's all about respect and manners. Cheers Chris

Lets face it none of us a Pulitzer prize wins. So long as the story/ question gets onto the forum who cares about the spelling punctuation of the grammar just go for it the import aspect is to provide answers to the question not mark the spelling

I tend to think that fora such as these are great places to practise ones composition, spelling and grammar. We can't be too hypocritical about it, in other threads we have lambasted the younger generation for their poor social, spelling, gramatical and ecconomic skills.

Personally I don't give a fig about it on here BUT when you have to deal with beaureacrats and other societal wankers it does pay to increase your wordpower. These people will think twice before dismissing you if you can express
yourself clearly and consisely, if you don't you pose no threat to them, they have a University Education they still can't spell but you come across as "inferior" to them so you can be ignored. The pen is always mightier than the sword.

It's a bit like being "Grey", everyone assumes you have dementia and therfore are an easy "mark". There are 2 aspects to it one is lack of skill, and that is OK, not everyone has had the chance to spell correctly, the other is lazyness and that is a big NO NO

Tip: try typing out your post in "Word", running the spell checker over it and cut and paste into the forum. Show the world that GN's cannot be stereo typed into a group of senile old people who can be outsmarted by a few litigious words.
As for rule 10; yeah forgive mistakes and remember that those who go round in circles are blessed for they are "Big Wheels"

Agree with all of the above and spot on. Basil, I had a chuckle about your comment below, how true that is. Someone told me the other day that since they dyed their Grey hair to a non grey colour that people have been treating them differently !

Here is another tip for spelling on the forum, see the free download in the link below, once you have it on your system, you just type your post on the forum, highlight the text (hold left key down and drag over post), right click text and IE Spell check will come up to check the spelling etc; For download of this program or to read about it click on below link;

I have used word quite a few times when writing into this forum, as it is my first and only one I have been interested enought to follow,
My education stopped at 13, and was cutting telegraph poles in the bush at 14, but I think I have come a long way since those days,
A recent thread on Daves absentia took me a long time to work out what I wanted to say
And I was heartened by a comment from Bridgee some time ago on my spelling

If poor literary skills are not being attributed to age, they are being attributed to "hormones" in the case of women.
We're either suffering PMS or "the change", but always hormonal.
My hormones have been blamed when I've disagreed with some of my male friends.
"You're upset because of your hormones".
Such patronising excuses for the male's poor communication skills is unfuriating, frustrating and just plain wrong!
It's still all about quality of the subject, not the quality of the grammatical prowess of the writer. Cheers Chris

C'mon Granny, blokes have got to have something to whinge about and Menopausal women are sitting ducks, if you want to get a bite simply make a remark, any remark to a woman having to go thru that and you get results. Kind of amazes me that blokes hormaones are never ever considered by society.
Anyway I'm off to have my hair dyed, maybe leave a little grey at the temples just to suggest that I look "distinguished"

We women tend to dismiss any failings of the male of the species as "a bloke thing".
