.. Hi all .. Here's a question which, no doubt many have worked their way through.
After I sell my house and car, how does one go about buying a motorhome when I no longer have a fixed address to provide. There would be many who simply use an address of their kids or other close associates to fix the problem.
.. I prefer not to use my lads addresses as they are both still single and still tend to move about themselves. Not having any other rellies in NSW sort of leaves me short of many more options
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
Friend of mine sold up and went into a caravan park with an on site van stayed there 3 weeks and that was his address, When I sold I visited a freind in vic, got the van and and a new 4by and used that address, now all mail stuff goes to my son, and all my bills insurance rego phone internet get paid on the phone by Visa,

Thanks M&J .. oops .. too close to M&M's .. yummy little so & so's, aren't they ? So Mike and Judy, nice to hear from you also ..
I've been thinking along similar lines to what your friend did ! .. My little Jayco poptop (swift) is still in quite good condition through ongoing TLC, and I'd be happy to use it .. then sell it after I have finalised everything. (.. as well as my Subaru Forester) ..
Not wishing to rely too heavily on the lads, I think that once all settles down, I would have very little 'snail-mail' going through to them, so I'll probably do the same there.
Jon Just had Jan, of Landbase Aust, a mail forwarding agency, on the phone, re your question. Seems she has dealt with this question for 13 years, from many others.
Her reply was: Whatever your address is, at the time of filling in a form, is your address. So if its a CP, use the street address of it, but most forms also have a mailing address. For this, use whatever address, you have your mail go to.
I have no association with Jan or her company, just picked one out and asked. She did not want to reply directly, as it may seem she is touting her business.
That leave the voting and insurance issue, but they have been addressed in the link I posted

.. Excellent work Bob .. !
That does give one a bit of flexibility.. and I'm now less concerned. The insurance issue is something I'll approach and probably with a melbourne based firm ..
Good food for thought Bob, thanks .. I'm chewing away !
Just as another thing comes to mind, Continuing to registered the vehicle in the state you started with might cost you a packet in the long run,, Check indivual state costs for the whole rig and move to it accordingly
Try Qld for the rego on motorhomes and even the purchase of as they seem to have the cheapest on road costs in OZ and if you buy from the dealer up there you use their address for all rego and insurance matters.
When voting in federal or state elections apply for a postal vote , local govt ( waste of time ) you where out of the state on tour is the answer, just keep park receipts to prove your location at the election time . Personal mail, use email and those who don't have an email address don't hear from you

I've been on the road since Aug 07, with no fixed place of abode. I use one of my kid's addresses for my mail, provide the express bags, and she sends it to wherever I advise I'm going to be next. There are central mail handlers, for a fee I believe, but it's a good option. Elections - It's compulsory to vote in Fed elections, but not in state, if you have no fixed place of abode in a particular state. They won't come and get you, I promise. This advice came straight from the election office. I've been in Qld for about a year - some on the road, and Cairns for 11 months now. My vehicle and van are registered in WA. I was told I should change it to Qld if I'm here for more than 3 mths, but as I'm still intending to travel when I can leave Cairns I have kept the WA rego, which I've just renewed. I did have to get a national insurance company for comprehensive insurance for the car. The van is insured with CIL. Most of my regular payments are paid by direct debit. Other bills are paid by internet bpay or pay anyone. Occasionally I have to use credit card online or by phone, such as my vehicle rego which I renewed online by credit card last week. There are all sorts of services out there to accomodate nomads. All you have to do it plan it. Cheers Chris

Does WA have compulsory rego checks on vehicles over 5 years old like NSW . I know that in NSW they now send the rego check electronically to the RTA and you can B-Pay but not sure it they will send interstate or if intersate will accept them .
I faced this problem for 30 years while in the services each time I changed states I had to change licence and regos on all vehicles and trailers a very costly exercise

No. WA doesn't require an inspection unless the vehicle has changed hands from another state. They did my van when I transferred from NSW to WA. My cruiser has always been in WA so no inspection necessary. Just as well. I'm in Cairns and I've just renewed the rego with WA. I had to get the Dept of Transport and Infrastructure site up, and then pay by credit card. Isn't technology wonderful - when it works? Time for national rego I think. One rule for all. Each state does its own thing, complicating the lives of millions no doubt. Unfortunately I don't see it happening in my life time. Each state Govt is so possessive and controlling. I hope it helped. Cheers Chris
