Bottled Water

While sitting in the dentist waiting room  I came across this alarming bit of info that is worthy of filing in the useless information file we all maintain .

In NSW we consume 250 Million Lt of bottled water, to make the soft plastic bottles and finally  transport  them them into your hand takes 100 million Lt of crude oil .

The World wide the populace  spends over 66 billion dollars on purchasing bottled water .    In some parts of the world  the res truant price for 500ml is around $22.00 and then they whinge about $1.20 Lt for fuel to get to work

Wasteful buggers aren't we

There were a lot of interesting facts about what the term bottled water really means but never had time to digest them all this time around

You have to wonder don't you.....A while back while I was waiting somewhere I read an article on bottled water in Choice and they tested some of the leading brands and discovered that the water was actually filtered tap water, and not from a spring at all. Next time you buy just read the lable or you could be buying tap water and tap water would never be as good as water that you pay $5 a liter for could it?
I personally have my drinking water flown in from Lourdes, purely for the mirical value of it, since I have started drinking it with Allipurinol I no longer get Gout so it does work!!!!

Ok Wombat but what we want to know is a) how much did the dentist charge you? b) what did he/she do and c) did it hurt?
I have an avid interest in Dentistry, my ex employer was accused of putting radio recievers into peoples teeth....

Regarding bottled water, a farmer told me it is best to use proper (not clear) bottle containers in cars.

He had left his clear bottled water on his console of his 4WD which was in the full sun while he worked in the paddocks. He said when he returned, there was smoke coming off the console, the bottle had acted as a magnifying glass being clear. He said he believes that if he had been much longer it may have caught fire.

sure will, seen it myself, another one to watch out for and it happened to me years ago, I left my cigarette lighter up on the dash of my dozer, in full sun, the thing exploded and showered me with plastic shards and it took me ages to get the stains out

I heard on the gripevine that it can take up to 25 litres of "normal" water to make one litre of "bottled" water when counting the washing and sterilising as well as hosing down all the equipment, wee bit wastefull methinks, considering that we are still saving everydrop we have here

I drink only bottled water, either from the hills of scotland or ireland. Something about how they take the peat filtered water, add cereal crops and bottle it for 12 years that adds great flavour.

I'm with you on this one, anything 12 years or older and I will imbibe.

Bushmills or Paddys heads the top of my list.   For those of you who don't know of Paddy's, it's an Irish whiskey made to a Scottish recipe

Your water is great for lemon trees.  No waste there.

I use tap water run through a filter jug.  I've read too much about the bottles and the water that's in them, the source and quality of the water.
If I could get rain water all the time, that's what I'd do.  The rainwater running off my annexe here in Cairns contains something which makes all surfaces turn grey, like mildew, so the run off is out.  I'm not sure the filter would fix it. The tap water here is quite good as it is.
I've given so many water samples to the local Pathology Lab I've accused the staff of bottling the stuff off and selling it for lemon tree fertiliser, and ferretting the cash away for the Christmas party.
